Lads trying to use one tragedy to score points against the other one is just pathetic…this has nothing to do with supporting a football club it’s just about respecting all fans that died. The hillsborough disaster is more contentious because of the cover up that went on for years… There’s no more to said on the topic at this stage… The authorities on the day were fully at fault, that has been established. End.

Opening the gate didn’t cause the deaths, the Liverpool fans did by trying to shove through when many of them did not have tickets and were trying to gain entry without it. They should a complete disregard for the safety and wellbeing of their fellow fans. You can’t just gloss over that, even after what they did in Heysel, they showed no willingness to learn or behave better.

I’m pragmatic about it.

The reaction from what I’ve heard is one of finger pointing. Most of us here have probably frequented events or venues through the years where something like this could conceivably have happened if fate had it in store. Hindsight is not much use in prevention.

It’s a terrible tragedy and one that those who were there that night will have to live with for the rest of their lives. I hope the case gets its due process and is not meddled with but I don’t like the finger pointing and trying to pin the blame on one individual or a few individuals, there were many factors at play that night and it’s just a terrible tragedy.

Cookstown is a great party town and the hub of mid Ulster.
