Holiday destinations for the lone traveller

@Bandage you will get a good value custom made engagement ring down there, bespoke i suppose you could call it where she will have a ring that no other woman on the planet will have and she will pick out her own diamonds from a bag of them spread across the table and as an added bonus you will save c.40%.
let me know if you are availing of this service and i can set you up with my man down there although he is based in the pretoria joburg region

Romania. Anyone been? Seems cheap as chips. Transylvania looks like it would be a bit of craic. Bucharest has a bad reputation though i understand.

Horrible traffic in Bucharest. It isn’t pretty but it’s interesting. I know someone who went touring around Romania this summer and they said it was excellent. It is a big country though. The roads there are deadly.

Lonely planet’s best countries to travel to in 2016:

  1. Botswana
  2. Japan
  3. USA
  4. Palau (never heard of it, it’s in the Pacific apparently)
  5. Latvia
  6. Australia
  7. Poland
  8. Uruguay
  9. Greenland
  10. Fiji

Greenland No. 9 FFS, who’d want to go there. I wouldn’t mind going to Uruguay, anyone been?

Go visit Kevs mate in Greenland. He’ll look after you.

Greenland is a known tfk haunt pal. Botswana? Latvia?

I’ve heard Botswana is good alright. Latvia is a funny one as well.

I went there for a day on a trip from Buenos Aires. It’s grand. From the little I saw you’d be better off going to Argentina, especially if you’ve a bit of time. Fantastic country. You could spend months there but you’d see a lot in 2-3 weeks

Is it expensive out there? Cheaper than Europe obviously, and dearer than Thailand/Vietnam?

it’s heading for ten years since I was there. About the same as Thailand I’d say. I was travelling at the time so staying in cheap hostels, etc. Spent about a month down in Patagonia. Hiker’s paradise if you’re into it.
If I was planning a 2-3 week trip, I’d take a few days in Buenos Aires (go to a Boca Juniors game), a few days in Mendoza, a few days in Bariloche and possibly even 3 nights in Rio on your way home. Distances are very big so flying from place to place would be worth it.

Right let’s get the 2016 trips up for planning.

After getting very good advice from @Balbec and @Bandage last year on Tuscany I am asking again.

Croatia anyone? Summertime with family

This kind of interests me too. Mooting a Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania type trip in September. Hoping forum warlord @mickee321 can advise.

Thanks boys.

Have been to Dubrovnik before. Lovely city and worth a trip. 2 days max and you’re done there.

It’ll most likely be scalding hot in July and August. Dubrovnik old town is very nice and some nice little spots along the coast from it. Montenegro next door is amazing and very cheap when I was there (approx 5 years ago). Kotor is a lovely town and then you have Budva for something more lively

Kotor

@Bandage I would highly recommend this region for a trip for 2

@ciarancareyshurlingarmy, it may be difficult to entertain the kids unless they are of a certain age to appreciate incredible scenery and fantastic seafood

They are mid and late teens, and well into good food.

Fierce hot in July/August as Fran says. Can be 40+. One guy I know said that you can’t really sight see until the evening it is so hot.

There’s only one place worth travelling to this summer…France.
