Tis indeed spectacular. I’ve been over about 3 or 4 times now. It’s lovely. Surprised it doesn’t get more Irish tourists, but maybe because it’s not near the airport in Malaga.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful too.

Las Alpujarras nearby also. Beautiful countryside and little villages. Grand hiking around Mulhacen.

Have never driven directly from DC to Atlanta, but have been to the Carolinas several times. Both NC and SC coastlines are well worth a visit, the drive through Virginia should be enjoyable, head east at Richmond to Virginia beach and the outer banks, then back to 95 and down to Myrtle beach. Raleigh is worth a visit if you have time on the way. Haven’t been to Savannah but I would say its a must on that journey, and you could visit Augusta on the way to Atlanta.

Yeah was planning heading to shendoah np them out too the coast Wilmington, myrtle beach and savannah. I’m limited with time as I was gonna spend first two nights in Washington

Been to Savannah on route to Hilton Head in South Carolina. Nice spot but seriously hot in the summer particularly if you go inland at all.
The whole country is like an oven in summer, unless you’re on a coast. But you’re right, the south is particularly uncomfortable due to humidity.
Virginia Beach is a lovely spot,I’ve been there a few times.

Two nights. Anywhere in Ireland, or within a couple of hours flight. I fancy sitting around, getting pissed and eying up the talent.
If it’s in Europe I want to fly out early and fly back late.
