Holidays in Ireland thread (Laois is for prisoners)

And they’re giving very wet weather the next seven days too. I’m going away myself on Monday.

Seconded. Bring a door and a whistle.

It’s great. Kids loved it. I think they have kayaking too but note sure if that is open yet.

A glass of rioja. And then a second.

We did similar in Kilrush the other day, would you need to prebook that a day in advance?

Anything else around Athlone, haven’t been up there in a good while

I think you need to pre book. It’s an hour and you need to be there 30 minutes or so before hand to get wetsuits and life jackets and get changed.

Is Lough Key too far

@KinvarasPassion is there much in Coole Park for young children ?
What about the Burren Nature Sanctuary ?
Looking for something to pass a couple of hours on the way south.

There’s not much in Coole for kids but it’s lovely, if the main field isn’t flooded it’s good for a run around, there’s a stand up sundial, works off your own shadow, the autograph tree, there’s some deer,
The museum is actually very good but for older kids, it’s all from the perspective of two little girls who grew up in the big house, a few stuffed native animals and that kind of thing

But it’s for walking really, no playground or anything, grand spot though

  • Better than Curraghchase

What about the Burren Nature Sanctuary ?

  • Better than Stonehall Farm (if it’s open)

In fairness, Curraghchase is a superior experience for kids, fairy trail, three playgrounds (1 updated), shop selling ice cream, bridge for twig races,

Well worth a visit. Nice cafe too.

Coole Park has nice walks and a coffee shop.

Disagree. Curraghchase is grand but badly maintained.

Traces of ecoli supposedly there and Whitehaven in Doonbeg im.told.

Was down there yday after kilrush waterpark. Had a spin over to grab soup t o warm up. Fucking bleak. August weekend and don’t know what would be harder- access to pints or the beach.

Are you around Carrowniskey?

Great cycleway on the old rail track, safe out with the littlies

Further north mate

We entered lockdown across Europe and within a short period we enjoyed 4 weeks of very good weather — as soon as Europe began to open back up it’s been all rain… cant be a coincidence.
