The Aquarium is worth a visit. I’ve been with the kids a few times. Kilruddery is a nice spot for a visit. If you are heading for a bite to eat, Greystones has plenty of options and nice for a stroll & a swim. The ladies cove is the best spot for a dip.
Earlier on, on what is my last day in Kerry, I spotted incredibly my eight and then ninth celebrity or ‘well known person’ of the week. I don’t think I will make it to the magic 10 as we are in Tralee now and on the route home. First we were at a small beach in Dunquin and we went down a narrow spiral lane to the beach. We were stopped sat at the wall while a 201 black jeep started coming down this narrow, winding slipway. I didn’t realise who it was until he got to the beach at the bottom and thought better of leaving the vehicle there as it was tight and thronged with people and had little turning space. On his way back up I saw that it was Mick Galway the ex rubby player. Going through Dingle then Michael “Mikey” Geaney was drinking pints with some other lads at he harbour area. It was fairly early for pints I thought at about 12.30-1pm but anyhow good luck to them. I’m tantalisingly close to double figure celeb spots this week but if it happens again it happens and I won’t force the issue.
Galway and Niall Quinn were in Paudie o sheas earlier in the week. The boys were posing for photos with Paudie’s son and mark o Shea I think it was. Sean o halpin passed on a bike. He’s a very impressive physical specimen.
The lads have fierce high standards these days
I love it. I’m a serial flasher
Is Kerry the new stomping ground for Cunts of the Year to holiday in?
Cork co council up to date as per usual( old head if Kinsale)
Spent a while in Killaloe earlier sitting on the river bank soaking in the sun. Twas glorious. Is there a GAA club in Ballina or Killaloe and would there be much messing between them given how close they are?
Informative. Much appreciated. It’s booked in for tomorrow
There’s a club in each. Ballina in Tipp and Smith O’Briens in Clare. Don’t know much other than that
We discussed Ballina gaa on the Tipp thread here recently. They were always junior/intermediate standard and in b and c championships underage but have improved a lot in the last 15 to 20 years as the population has grown. Up until Michael Breen came along they never had a senior championship hurler for Tipp, think they were one of the last sides in Tipp to produce one.
Smith O’Briens in the Clare side but us made up of Killaloe, the villages of O’Briens Bridge, Bridgetown and all in between. They have a big pick geographically yet have always been underachieving. Most of their better lads down through the years would have been from the Bridge or Bridgetown rather than Killaloe and the town is strange in that occasionally the hurling will go well but then have a bad year and lads will put their efforts into soccer or something else, they never seem to be able to sustain teams in different sports at the same time. They produced a couple of good minor teams at the start of the 2000s which went on to win an intermediate title and stayed senior for 5 or 6 years but have been intermediate for the last 6 or 7 years. Haven’t produced a county hurler since the 70s.
They used to play every summer in a challenge match as part of the Brian Boru festival which Ballina would more often win despite being intermediate and Smith O’Briens senior not sure if it still happens. Most would have went to secondary school together so no real bad blood or cut and it would be played at challenge match pace.
There would be a bit of shit talk alright by the bar flies around championship matches and often the Tipp lads will venture over to Willie Walsh’s, Reddans or the Seanachaoi on the Monday after last Tipp championship win while the Clare lads would go to Molleys (now boruma) or Mills in Ballina when Clare win a championship match to hop balls and stir the pot.
We took off for Ardmore earlier this afternoon but aborted just beyond midleton when we hit castlemartyr traffic about 8km from castlemartyr.
180 degrees, back the way, out to knockadoon pier which was beautiful and busy, but comfortable.
You’ve done some u-turning this year kid
What’s good in Mayo lads. I’m in foxford area but will be travelling all over
I really love Achill
Achill is stunning if the weather plays ball
