I was cleaning out the freezer when I came across 550g of these bad boys. Wild damsons rather than sloes which they are often mistaken for. They will make a lovely gin. Not as ruby in color or as full on in taste as the sloe but good nevertheless. I think this is what you had on your country estate @flattythehurdler

No, it’s on blackthorn in my scrubland Fagan. There’s heaps of blackthorn there.
Those photos were poor enough, and, it was a month too late. Im pretty sure they’re sloes, though I’m always open to correction

Spent the morning bottling last autumn’s sloe gin. This is the prize exhibit, made with late season sloes picked in the Wicklow mountains.

It will be a gift

I got a gift of a bottle of sloe Gin recently, lovely tack. I’d usually have a glass before bed and some of the dreams you’d have in the hours after are off the wall. Fighting on horse back last night with only a half hurl as my weapon, travelling a savage pace.

It’s the fairies that live beneath the blackthorn bush that are the cause of those dreams

Would you bother with a chilli Fagan. I find it gives a great lift, with the possibility of Mexican fairies

Never thought of that but sure why not?

One or two birds eye chilli’s is plenty, I really messed up a bottle with too much- I’m now blending it in judiciouslyish
