A three litre and a two litre jar packed to the gills with sloe gin after a mornings work.

Would you actually drink it or do you give it away?

I give most of it away. Main source of berries is very close to my fathers grave so it has a very big sentimental significance in our family.

Oooooft

I havenā€™t even looked yet this year. The field I normally pick them in still has barley in it. Iā€™m fucked if Iā€™m getting nailed with chiggers. Time enough anyway for another few weeks.

As an aside, I hope you left some for the faeries.

Got a fuck load of them down in Kerry as well this year. Theyā€™re out very early. I wouldnā€™t leave it too long. I sorted the fairies. Did a deal with them. We were both happy enough with it.

A year off would do me no harm, but then again, it is a nice drop. Plum poitĆn is my new poison.

Do you have a pot still?

No, but I know a man that does.

@Fagan_ODowd do you add the sugar syrup with the sloes or do you add it after cold steeping the berries, ie just before drinking?

The former.

Have you ever tried the latter? Iā€™ve always added it just before drinking so Iā€™ll give the other way a whirl this time.

I did a very @Fagan_ODowd thing by buying Boyleā€™s Gin as the staple.

Never tried the other way to be honest. Never occurred to me. :man_shrugging:t5:

I reckon that Gordonā€™s is the cheapest gin on the Irish market now, thatā€™s how mad things are gone. Gordonā€™s is ā‚¬21 when itā€™s on special in SuperValu, Castelgy, Lidls own brand gin is ā‚¬23. I got it for 5.99 in Lidl in Germany.
