The tipp loss was another fluke and if they hadnât thrown it away on the sideline theyâd have accounted for Kilkenny. Itâs all ifs and bits but I donât think you can discount what they did this year, in reality no one else achieved any more than them. Kk only fluked a Leinster title and were handed a semi win by Clare.
He has to change something surely. Heâs gotten closer to Limerick than anyone but theyâve been shown up on the sideline a few times now. He should give it one more go but should recognise they need to add to or adjust the backroom team somehow. Fantastic team to watch when they click in fairness.
Thatâs not true at all really, if they have everyone fit they are a match for everyone. They donât have the depth to sustain injuries to key players but no one other than Limerick does.
Definitely disagree with that again. They have as good a pair of players for 3 and 6 as anyone else (again outside of Limerick). I agree they donât have depth to sustain injuries but again no one other than Limerick does. They need things to go their way - clean bill of health, and key ref calls - but if they do theyâve as good or probably better a set of players to take advantage.
The biggest obvious place they can improve is on the sideline. Theyâve shown the team can go toe to toe with Limerick but theyâve had a lot of sideline cockups.
Theyâve asked a lot of questions of Limerick alright but thereâs a book of evidence to suggest Limerick are different beast in croke park too.
Clare are a fine side but they are limited. They lack a few quality of players. Cleary is a decent player but heâs not outstanding nor is Conlon nowadays. The keeper isnât great either.
Probably short another forward as well.
Iâm not sure who Clare have coming through next year but I wouldnât be shocked to see them fall back a little unless they find a couple of players.
Rory Hayes and Diarmuid Ryanâs lack of defensive instincts are bigger issues/weaknesses than Conlon or Cleary.
If Clare had two Adam Hoganâs or two David Mcinerneyâs they would probably be an all Ireland winning side imho. Hayes makes too many mental mistakes and Ryan is worth his place on the 15 but offers no cover with his attacking intent - the two lads cough up significantly more scores than Conlon and cleary through lapses and mental errors
