Hurler of the Year and All Stars debate

Hurler of the year is voted on by the players.

The only way Nicky Quaid gets an allstar now is if Limerick score a heap of goals in the final.
That class save Murphy made in the semi has given him lots of credit in the bank

Did you never eatch Shefflin play?:rofl:

Iā€™d be surprised if Kelly got an all star, his wides/misses in the Munster final will count against him, but he has had some exceptional spells in this championship. The 15 minutes after half time v Waterford, second quarter v cork and the 20 minute burst v Dublin.

Even last week, watching the match back during the week he had a very good second half playing the Ryan Taylor role at midfield. It was an untypical Kelly performance as he played deep and looked to play make. Clare gleaned 1-5 off Kelly direct assists or attacks he started winning breaks back inside his 40 and starting attacking - he had 16 possessions in total and clare got 1-7 and 11 shots from these 16 possessions.

DOD who was MOTM the day before had 13 possessions and Mikey Butler 5 in total - one of which was in the first minute picking up Oā€™Donnell. Yet the narrative is that DOD was far more prominent and Butler had the better of the exchanges against Kelly. TK is just judged at a different standard.

Also Adrian Mullen had a serious first half last Sunday and a big last 15 when moved to centre forward

I had my fill of him in the 2007 final :joy:

Thatā€™s a very surprising stat on Butler, 5 in the whole game. Then again possessing the ball was not his job. Some craic seeing him bearing down, twice, on the kilkenny goals though

He made three barnstorming runs which made it appear as though he was more prominent that he actually was

I would entirely discount the Dublin match to be fair, one of the worst matches I was at in a while. The way Dublin were defending was an embarrassment to Championship hurling

If Tom has a massive final, Iā€™d have no argument with him getting HotY but Gillane is a deserving favourite ATM.

If Kilkenny win the AI, Cody is the obvious favourite.

If Blanchfield does miss the final, could cost him an All Star, I think heā€™s been very good.

Gillane is due a red soon.
I wouldnā€™t be banking on himā€¦

Tom has been taken off with 15/20 minutes to go in Limericks last 3 games, all three were relatively tight at the time, 2 of them were knockout games ans the other a Munster final. I know its a demanding role he plays but hes not in HOTY contention in my opinion.

Individual awards are not very important to us.

DOD is the best player in the country right now

Turned into the complete midfielder and physical as anyone in the game

If the HOTY was given out in June then Morrissey would have been in the running but the rest of the Limerick team has gotten motoring since.

I wouldnā€™t read a whole pile into ā€œbeing taken offā€ tbh.

If he empties himself over 55 minutes and plays really well, then heā€™s done his job.

Himself & DOD dragged us back into the game against Galway when the others were shit, he was absolutely immense.

Hegarty might have higher highs but Tom is our best half forward and extremely consistent

Would love to see him pick up the hoty award

Dan, Kyle, DOD, Tom and Gillane only bankers for Limerick this year

If Limerick win

Motm in the final would swing it for him, but coming off early does affect his chances. Have to get CON on the field somehow.

Those 5 will get all stars regardless
