Hurler of the Year and All Stars debate

Who are actually eligible and in contention for YHOTY?

Not a hope kid
Limerick 7 max

You’ll probably lose Quaid and WOD out of that.
Reidy well due one. Has been extremely effective in recent years.
Hayes HOTY

21 or younger at the start of the year

Its between Adam Hogan, Mark Rodgers and Cathal O’Neill realistically. Ciaran Joyce would have been in contention if Cork got further.

Gillane just isn’t winning hurler of the year is he

22 now I believe. Changed last year.

21 on the 1st of January - so under 22 in essence is the eligibility

Is the criteria purely age? Say a lad had three tremendous senior IC years by the time he was 21, could he win YHOTY 3 times?

Hayes has been brilliant all year but Gillane was by far unbelievable. Has to be Gillane for me

There’ll be a meltdown everywhere, TK doesn’t deserve an All Star this year.

When Limerick we’re going through their dodgy phase and questions were being asked, Gillane was in a different level. He’s been superb all year.

Yes, Eoin Cody won it twice. Austin Gleeson and Tony Kelly won HOTY and YHOTY in the same year.

Barry nash will lose out. Reidy as well Id say. WOD will get one.

Limerick 7
Kilkenny 5
Clare 2
Galway 1

I don’t think get obsession with running down poor Tony Kelly.

After the Munster final he was in contention for hurler of the year and a nailed on all star.

He bagged three goals v Dublin and while he didn’t score v Kilkenny he was industrious and made a few key contributions. It wasn’t his best game by any means.

It seems very harsh to me for him not to get one. Tom Morrissey had an electric round robin but wasn’t great in the last two games but everybody seems to think he should get an all star.

Seems there’s one rule for Tony Kelly and one rule for everyone else.

And if you’re saying gillane wins the hurler of year for two great performances than surely cian lynch gets an all star for his semi final and final performances.

  1. Nicky Quaid (Limerick)
  2. Huw Lawlor (Limerick)
  3. Dan Morrissey (Kilkenny)
  4. Barry Nash (Limerick)
  5. Diarmuid Byrnes (Limerick)
  6. William o Donghue (limerick)
  7. Kyle Hayes (Limerick)
  8. Cian lynch (Limerick )
  9. Darragh O’Donovan (Limerick)
  10. Tony Kelly (Clare)
  11. Shane O’Donnell (Clare)
  12. Tom Morrissey (Limerick)
  13. Aaron Gillane (Limerick)
  14. Conor Whelan (Galway)
  15. Eoin Cody (Kilkenny)

Cian Lynch was poor in the first half of the semi final until he went centre forward
