Hurler of the Year and All Stars debate

I don’t think get obsession with running down poor Tony Kelly.

After the Munster final he was in contention for hurler of the year and a nailed on all star.

He bagged three goals v Dublin and while he didn’t score v Kilkenny he was industrious and made a few key contributions. It wasn’t his best game by any means.

It seems very harsh to me for him not to get one. Tom Morrissey had an electric round robin but wasn’t great in the last two games but everybody seems to think he should get an all star.

Seems there’s one rule for Tony Kelly and one rule for everyone else.

His 3 goals against Dublin is akin to Fordes 2-11 against Offaly ffs

He played two more games.

Man of the match v Dublin I presume with three goals. and then ok against Kilkenny.

Can’t get why he’s suddenly losing out on an all star because of it.

Forget the Dublin game. I could have got motm myself against dublin if I togged out. Whileche was better against kk this year, he has still failed to deliver when he needs to.

He was decent v Kilkenny.

For him to lose out on all star because of that performance is a nonsense.

By the same logic Tom Morrissey shouldn’t get one or Conor whelan or even Cody.

Limerick had a cleansweep of league, Munster and All-Ireland - winning both national finals by a combined 20 points - so should get 9 at a minimum.

HOTY - Gillane.
Young hurler of the year - King Con if eligible.

Swap Eoin Murphy into goals and King Tony for Cody and you have it

To the victor go the spoils. Limerick rightly dominate the team because they steam rolled both the semi final and the final.

All the Limerick posters picking Cody and whelan. I’d strongly suspect most lads saw them in two games in the championship this year and they both done nothing in one of those two games.

The agenda against Tony Kelly is hilarious.

As for hurler of the year It’s a very tricky conversation as the parameters on what you pick the hurler of the year aren’t very clear.

Do you include the league?

Do you weight all championship games the same?

Or do you give extra points for the final and the semi final?

Don’t forget the Munster final and Leinster final aren’t knock out games either.

Diarmuid byrnes would be every bit as deserving as gillane when you look at it overall.

Him lashing in the penalty v cork being a key moment in the year.

Dan Morrissey and Kyle Hayes both were extremely consistent but possibly didn’t have one outstanding game like gillane did.

I think you could make a decent case for all four players. Very little between them in my book. I’d love to see mr consistent Dan Morrissey get it but he won’t.

Not to give Kelly an All Star would be a complete fundamental misunderstanding of the game of hurling

But the All Stra regularly make a bollocks of it so it won’t surprise me if they overlook him

What standout games did kelly have this year? A hat trick against dublin shouldnt have too much weight based on the strength of the opposition. In fairness SOD was Clares best player this year and Conlon was immense, no disputing that theybshould have all starts. Dont get me wrong im a massive fan of kellys, outstanding talent but no his best year nor better than any of the forawrds named. They might shoehorn him in instead of WOD

Conlon wasn’t great in the Munster final looking back it and wasn’t fantastic against Kilkenny either.

Picking him and then using one game to slight Kelly is very odd.

I think o Donghue will be six to make room for cian lynch at mid field.

Kelly could get one solely based on media narrative and the “ah shur Tony like shur Tony’s magic in full flow” bollocks talk. Fact is he went hiding far too often in games and especially when Clare were crying out for him. Shane O Donnell is a cheating little bollocks but he stood up when Clare needed him and will get a deserved All Star.

Tony Kelly had more of an impact against Kilkenny than Tom Morrissey did that’s for sure.
