Hurling 15 for 30

Simples. Pick your best 15 players from the last 30 years for your county. Will keep it to hurling for now so the Limerick lads arguments don’t get buried in some football chat.

Can you provide me with a complete list of everyone who has played football for Limerick in the last 30 years so I can give everyone fair consideration?

Take your football talk to the football thread

Disregard my earlier message.

@ciarancareyshurlingarmy please provide the hurling list

I suggest we do that by club.

Myself and @glasagusban could pick 15 from the club

Davy

Gerry Quinn-Brian Lohan-Frank Lohan

Liam Doyle-Seanie McMahon-Daly

Baker-Lynch

Jamsie-Tony Kelly-John Conlon

Conor McGrath-Niall Gilligan-Tony Griffin

Tried to pick lads in their best positions - Gerry Quinn did most of his hurling at half back but Daly employed him at corner back on a few occasions to man mark danger men and he was an excellent back from 2002 to 2006 and at his best I would have him over Brian Quinn, O’Halloran Gerry O’Grady, Bugler, Donnellan, Dillon, David McInerney et al.

Forwards were tricky - Jamesie being the only nailed on one and the likes of the Sparrow and Shane O’Donnell both are worthy of a starting spot. Colin Ryan and Peter Duggan only really had two good seasons of championship hurling which go against them.
Conlon and Gilli get in on longevity, Griffin gets in due to his excellent form from 2004 to 2006. While McGrath and Kelly get in due to their skill level and ability to do things and take scores no other Clare forward was capable of.

Full forward line was the problem. Only really have Rory Jacob as an option there, Dempsey or Scallon from 96 not setting things alight, albeit Dempsey was a very good player and underrated. Half forward line had a lot more competition, Rory McCarthy and Chin shunted from there to make room for them in the FF line. George was on the tail end of the career but got in a few years in the last 30. Fenlon was some man to keep the ball moving. Dee O Keefe will be pushing for that spot in time. Half back line is good, and full back line had to make room for Liam Ryan in the corner with Darragh Ryan at FB.

You passed one of my two can’t leave outs there but delighted you picked Hickey. The toughest but fairest full back of his time.
Other personally speaking for me is Cha. Between 06 and 09 he was better than anything seen at midfield

Would agree with most of that but I’d have Dempsey in the corner, Drop Gizzy and have McCarthy on the wing.

Dempsey was a fine servant and more deserving of a place than the likes of Lyng or even McDonald (yet).

yeah I initially had McCarthy on the wing and shoved him into the full forward line when I couldnt make my mind up on the full forwards. Same with Chin at centre forward but had forgot about Storey. Borderline call I suppose, I think Gizzy would have had a greater career had he been in a different era, but he was great in a really shit period, much like Rossiter was. Dempsey probably had better days in the latter 80s and early 90s and 96 was his swansong.

Seamus Hickey instead of Reale and that’s pretty much it

Probably a bit of a bias towards recent times. There is serious picking in a forward line with English, Cleary, Fox, Bubbles, Bonner, John McGrath all left out and all six would possibly be automatics on other county teams. That being said I’ve also possibly ommitted some obvious ones also.
