Hurling All-Stars 2013

All Stars are a farce. A stellar run to August or September can be undone by a bad 35 minutes in Croke Park.

Then thereā€™s the likes of James Oā€™Connor in 2001 and Councillor Martin Storey in 1998 getting an award for just one game.

Most of you people are thick dullards by the way.

John Taylor got rammed with it as well in the 80ā€™s

John Leahy got one in 1994 without even playing in a championship match. That was the same year Brian Whelehan, the hurler of the year didnā€™t get one.

Is Leahy the only man to win an All Star without playing in the championship the year he won it?

Technically he did see Championship action in 1994. It was for the Tipperary footballers though. Injury picked up on football duties ruled him out of the Munster Hurling semi final against Clare and the shock exit that ensued.

was it a bit mad for Leahy to try both that season? Was he really up to the standard of senior inter county football? He may have been very good at minor but senior might have been too tall an order. fair play to him for trying though

well apart from that harry! was he really up to it at that level? He was no Declan Browne after all. Was he as good as Brendan Cummins at the football. Cummins was a good footballer

Mullinahone were traditionally a Football club, Hurling only really caught on there & became successful after Leahy made the Tipp Senior team.

It was Tipperary not Kerry in fairness. Iā€™m sure he was plenty good enough especially in 1994. At least these days they are producing the odd good un.
