A fella who can win the ball as well as him, and use it intelligently, is vital. He didn’t exactly have quick wrists but he was good for a point a game. Scored a goal against us in 2001 aswell. No one is saying he’s a top class scoring forward but I’d rather have him than a lot of supposedly more talented players.

I’m probably biased towards Breen. Breen did have more hurling and was better with ball in hand, but Pender was definitely better at actually winning the ball.

I always wonder how inter county teams could never figure out with lads like Pender to just let him have it and mark his options. He’d over carry or hit it wide

Breen wasnt great to win a clean ball but his man never won it clean either

I’d say teams did do that a bit but even in the mid-2000s, if gets the ball between the '45 & '65, he’s probably lumping in that to find Mullane or Dan or Flynn or whoever inside rather than taking a score. They’ll be marked but the game was that bit different.
