Hurling League 2014

New proposal to Central Council for a return to an 8 team division 1. Top 3 teams in division 1 and the 1B winners play in the semis.

Frank Murphy proposal?

Presume Wexford will be pushed up to Division 1 given they were relegated via the meeting room and not on the pitch a couple of years back. Maybe Cork and Limerick to play-off for the other spot.

I presume so Bandage, yes.

Frank has the lads dancing to his merry tune again. We draw with AI champions and Leinster champions and will be stuck down in the lepers league

It will be

Clare
Kilkenny
Cork (obviously)
Galway
Waterford
Limerick
Tipp
Dublin

That has the makings of a decent league in all fairness. Limerick and Offaly will probably be swapping divisions for years to come

eh glas? How does this new format work? I am not clear

Just had a glance at it but the top team from the lower division, and the top 3 for division 1 go into semi finals for the league.

Who tabled the motion? I want answers!

I just saw it on twitter man relax. I’ll tell you one thing though, we’ve already bought Kerry’s vote

Now we know why Limerick voted for the seeded football draw in Munster.
Scratchy backs with Frankeen.

How many get relegated/promoted? Should be 2 up, 2 down

Depends who gets relegated

Don’t assume Kerry are so easily bought.

Hurling is in 2nd place to football in Kerry but the co board generally treat the senior hurlers well. It may look out to see how this new league proposal affects Kerry hurling before it votes. Don’t assume Kerry will do to its hurlers what Limerick did to its footballers

It was a Kerryman as President, Sean Kelly introduced the Christy Ring, Rackard cups etc. to suit counties like Kerry, Kildare, Carlow etc. He also got the finals a slot as curtain raisers to the all Ireland hurling semi’s. Many a president from hurling counties didn’t take the chance to bring in such competitions and subsequent presidents from hurling counties took these finals away from the attractive curtain raiser semi final slot

well said Mac. You can add in who cries the most about not getting promoted

whatever they do lets hope they stick to the format this time

Last year was a wonderful league and championship

Dublin’s and Limerick’s provincial successes showed that all this crying about been in 1b was just that i.e. “crying”

I’d be happy out if that was the case. A fuck you to the limerick county board for what they did to the limerick footballers from any quarter is fine by me, and the Kerry board might even show them something about how they should go about doing their jobs in the process.

i congratulated my limerick friends on their promotion the evening we beat cork in the play off. No offence whatsoever to limerick men at all but this is a fcuking disgrace. as i argued right back at the beginning there is fcuk all wrong with this format as was comphrehensively proven by the championship.

this is absolutely about revenue and has nothing to do with hurling.
It also pulls up the ladder in front of wexford offaly and antrim. I would be against it even if we had lost that play off but there would of course have been no change. Anyone interested in hurling as a sport should oppose this in my view. it`s bigger than self interest. wexford drew with the leinster champions and the all ireland champions and offaly went toe to toe with kilkenny. This bullshit basically tells them to take their small incremental successes and fcuk off

just looked this up.
8th place gets relegated.
7th place plays loser of division 2 final in play off.
Still only 6 teams in division 2 (sorry division 1a)

Yep it is about revenue. For a properly coached team like Cork a season in Second tier can be a good thing.

you have always spoken sense on this subject TAN

The endless whinging about league format became so tiresome and then laughable when one sees how the championship panned out. The competition has been dragged through the gutter with all these changes too.
