Hurling Qualifiers, July 4th

Iā€™m still depressed, Going to Mullingar on Sunday week doesnā€™t make it any easier fuck off will you.

The best of the Offaly hurlers went on a J1 to South America to catch up with their big arses and belly cousins.

I was there earlier this year, easy enough to access but parking an issue. Get there early and you can get pretty close to the field. It is a small ground.

You raking the piss bud. hard luck sunday ye are not that bad bud

Not so bad, whats the quickest way to get up there pal?

The fastest way is to go through Roscrea and Tullamore

Ah I hate Offaly hurling and everything to do with them Joe. Weā€™re not in fairness pal but Iā€™m still very sore about it.

The second goal killed us off completely, to be fair to Richie if he was fit he would have caught that ball. Our tactics were abysmal, Leaving P Maher free to mop up all our puck outs was absolute madness. TJ was never going to be tactically astute so Iā€™m looking at Beary etc more so.

After the Clare game I never thought Iā€™d see Hickey hurl as bad again. Fucking hell he canā€™t play corner back again absolutely roasted and this falling over shite is driving me mad. Hickey to wing back for me the next day or nothing.

Onwards and upwards and all that but we need to bring in fresh blood to the panel at the very least now, Half forward and full back lines are simply not good enough.

Ah the same would have happaned clare if not worse.

We learn more in defeat than in victory, at least we should.

I donā€™t think there needs huge changes, just some tightening up on some areas.

I think so. Look we will have the players defence is still a worry but we have options

worry

Golded , morey have to go only club hurlers

Look lads it is what it is now. Sunday was a total fuck up. To be honest I wasnā€™t that sour coming out of the Gaelic Grounds. Maybe that was because I had a shit seat on yhe twenty one at the Clare end right down at the pitch. So really all I saw was our full back line getting tore apart during the first half.
A win Sunday week isnā€™t going to cover up any cracks and even a win after that wonā€™t do a whole lot of good either. There are a lot of astute posters here who are tactically aware to boot. The problem imo lies with management in boyh team selection and tactics. There is also the loyalty question and while Donal Oā€™Grady owes us nothing, he is nothing more than an impact sub.
The question of training must also come into question. My gut feeling is these lads are over trained and as a result are gone flat. The amount of injuries would tend to back up that statement.
I canā€™t see us going any more than a qf this year but the flip side is our minor u 21 and intermediate teams ate in with a real shout of making it a decent year.
We need to take a leaf out of Waterfords book and take a chance on young lads. Fuck sake we have besten Waterford three years in a row and now theyā€™re in a MF.
Donā€™t know if thereā€™s anything in the rumour about Daly. Donā€™t know if itā€™s the right time or not but as I said before we had a glorious opportunity between 2000 and 2002. We all know what happened then. Itā€™s like walking back in time

calvin bugs midfield?

Itā€™s the same team more or less for 3 years running now- new faces badly needed all over the place to rattle senior players. As I read elsewhere, itā€™s nearly harder to get off the Limerick panel than it is get on it. How can Waterford bring through 7 of the minor team from two years that Limerick beat twice and yet Limerick only bring one in? Now I know leaving cert has played a part in that but surely we could have added one or two more to the squad.

Cork flying in training. No sliotars though so it might be misleading.

who ye are

Sort the quoting out Joe or iā€™ll dig the head off you.

We need to find a replacement for Walsh and Hickey at 2 and 4, and possibly a new FB if Richie isnā€™t 100%.

Gavin and Seanie did okay, but Condon definitely has to move back into the corner. We need to restore the Browne-JimBob midfield asap for me as well. Half forward line also needs major surgery.

My team for Westmeath would be.

Quaid
Wayne Mac (under strict instruction to beat his man and get rid of the ball, no running into contact whatsoever)
Richie (Only if 100% fit as I think playing him when his shoulder was fucked was managements fault)
Condon
Ronan Lynch
Gavin
Seanie Oā€™Brien
Jimbob
Paul Browne
Dowling (has all the hurling in the world but doesnā€™t have the pace to be in a two man FF line, canā€™t fault him at all for Sunday but would be as effective on the 40, Downes potentially would give us a goal threat has to be tried now)
Hannon
Reidy (he deserves a chance, has potential)
Mulcahy
Downes (he has only prospered for us albeit 3 or 4 years ago at Full forward - deserves a chance if it doesnā€™t work, thatā€™s it for him unfortunately)
Lynch

On reflection as I go through the team, Hickey needs to be dropped, nice fella and all that but the last two performances cannot be continued for me.

Aside from Daly who would be the likely contenders to replace Teege?

Given the strength of the minors over the past few years surely they will surely get rid of TJ at the end of the season. Is there anyone in the county that is an option?
