Hurling Team of the Century 2000 - 2022

Dan gave Sean Og 3/4 red raw roastings

Curran and Tom Kenny are the two from Cork I’d be a fan of. Kenny faded badly which rules him out but he was class.

I’d find it hard to leave Mullane out of any team. Giving two fingers to Limerick back in the day

Clem Smith would make any great team of the 00s

His goal before half time in that game was unreal.

He got an unreal goal v cork too into the hill one day

Would noel Hickey not be in the shake up for a specialist full back?

Agree on Ken. He was a force of nature in full flow. U would think after watching the 2004 munster final 47 times during covid cunts would know that

Not in the last 25 years, but then again neither should Sullivan.

That was a belting post.

You are wasting your breath, talking to a full idiot – especially to one who knows nothing about hurling.

The real story here? My saying RP is one of the three most naturally talented hurlers I have ever seen. If I had said RP was average, that other idiot would have said RP was superb. Etc. That type of craic is a syndrome with a certain class of an idiot.

A commonality in the autobiography of Henry Shefflin, of Jackie Tyrrell, of Eoin Larkin? Each former great said the settled view in their Kilkenny camp was that the best hurler in there was RP – and by a distance.

Pádraic Maher says in his autobiography that RP was the best opponent he faced.

Enough said. Anyone who knows anything at all about hurling knows what RP had.

No Kyle and no DJ. It’s as if the players who have been convicted with offences in Court or have a pending case against them weren’t considered.

I saw Nicky Quaid in the goal, and not Eoin Murphy, knew then that this is a wind-up.

In fairness DJ’s best stuff was in the 90’s

He played up till 2005ish? More than qualifies him. If DJ played a minute in the 00’s he makes the team*.

*For me

His overrated point in the 2002 final should have secured him an award if The Rock got in on the basis of one iconic score

  1. Brendan Cummins
  2. Jackie Tyrrell
  3. Diarmuid O’ Sullivan (Captain)
  4. Ollie Canning
  5. Tommy Walsh
  6. Ken McGrath
  7. JJ Delaney
  8. Tony Kelly
  9. Mick Fennelly
  10. TJ Reid
  11. Henry Shefflin
  12. Richie Hogan
  13. Eoin Kelly
  14. Joe Canning
  15. John Mullane

Richie Power - two all stars. Lar Corbett - three all stars and one hurler of the year.

O Sullivan was a much better player than remembered here but hard to say he’s the best 3 of this period. JJ to 3 frees up a spot. Hannon at 6 is a bit of a head scratcher if we take out team accomplishments. Ronan Curran at 6 and Kyle Hayes on the wing? Ken McGrath should be present at some position. I’d have Ben O Connor over Hoggie from a Cork point of view. Ben O Connor just knew how to win and how to drag a team on a bad day. Hoggie can do the same but his lack of a Liam disqualifies him although his inclusion is an obvious one based off stats and longevity.

Lee Chin mentioned for the bench is diabolical.

From his own era Noel Hickey was twice the full back. The Rock could only dream of doing the job on Corcoran in the 06 final that Hickey did.
