UI Fiachrach Aidhne is god’s own country
There’s massive history in those counties. Real history. Stretching right up through Galway as far as Clonbur / Cong. That’s where the Tuath Dé Danann set their stall out.
The history and culture is tangible on the west coast. Well certainly compared to the extended home counties on the east
Was connacht not given back to the fir bolg after the tuatha De bate them with their cap?
So the story goes. The Fir Bolgs were given their choice of the provinces and they (wisely) chose Connacht, which in those days extended north from Limerick.
MIA when it came to Irish freedom though
Ireland is a failed state, an unworkable super structure. It was never intended to be united, the provinces were always independent. Connacht was free, was never truly colonized. If other provinces couldn’t handle their business and maintain their identity that’s their weakness. I look forward to the day Connacht secedes from this sham.
I’ll quote the great Joe Connolly from 2017
“We’re a proud county. The West’s Awake , that song is about Munster and Leinster coming together in the 13th century to fight against Connacht and we ran ye, through Curlew’s Pass and Ardrahan. We ran the Normans, which was ye lads from Munster and Leinster. It isn’t ‘croppy lie down’ as regards Galway and I’m bloody glad that that manifested itself this year at Croke Park.”
The fir bolg had gone off to Greece and were made slaves. They had previous when it came to being given rocky, infertile land and making it work.
The tuatha De went North after the Nemads fled.
There was a third lot went to Britain, did they ever come back @Thomas_Brady?
Stunning.
You going for a splash?
I can’t swim
Can you splash?
Bang on
I threw stones into it
Good man.
Are you afraid of water or is the swimming something you never got round to?
I loved the sea but haven’t gone in with 5 years. I got a woeful fright
Ah I can make my way across a bit of water if someone put a gun to my head. But I’d struggle to thread water. Never got into it
Very hard to do alright
Another Monday, another hill or in this case a mountain. Croghan on the Wexford Wicklow border. Could make out Mount Snowden in Wales on the horizon. It’s some country we have lads.
Much of a hike?
