One of my favourite places in the world.
Ross Beach today looking back across at Enniscrone.
Going to chance the Westport greenway tomorrow. Serious chance it could end in disaster if the little one decides she has enough of it an hour in and we an hour from the car
Which leg of greenway mate?
We are starting in Westport and we’ll see how it goes. Could be the leg where you pay €60 for bikes then turn around after 15 minutes
Word from the wise, find an entrance an hour from another entrance. 2 of you get out and one drive the car to the next place, ye can walk towards each other then.
I had to carry a child and push a bike the last time I went down on my own. I was fucked after it
Get one of those bars to attach her bike to yours.
I’m going to chance the bike and one of these trailer things
She’s a bit young for that yet. A serious chance I could fall off and smash the two of us. I haven’t cycled since the Aran Islands about 4 years ago and before that I was 14 I’d say
The only job. Worked grand for us anyway.
Shur’ aren’t yours all teenagers now, you’d have thought they were done with stabilisers and tow-bars.
Is the forecast not woeful for tomorrow?
Accuweather says it’s alright after 11. If not we’ll give it a miss
It’s an out and back I assume? The buses are not running you back to the car over the Covid. We were gonna do the 45k of the Waterford tomorrow but it’ll have to be Kilnacthomas to Waterford and back, did 13k today with the little two
Ya it goes all the way to achill which would be lovely and takes about two and a half hours. But I think somewhat over ambitious. No shuttles is a balls. Would have given some fall back options.
Is the little train service running in kilmeaden? Good for younger adventurers
I’m be done all that one, the Westport to Newport is probably the least good stretch
A good aul day again today. The weather makes it. Up before 6 to tackle the reek solo. Some mountain runner was up before me. I met an elderly couple on the summit who had camped there for the night. Back home before 9 to sort a breakfast.
Hit for Achill then. Drove around a bit following a history tour/stop of the island. Some great and sad stories such as Achill being the location for the greatest loss of life on a film set. 4 people drowned making a film in 1951. Same production company as the carry on movies.
On then to Keem beach. It’s a worldie. Wasn’t too crowded but it was well packed when we were leaving after 3. Gordan Darcy was there but I’m not logging him. Weather was unreal. I’ve a noble roaster farmers tan now.
Back towards Westport where we stopped on a playground en route. Mayo is chock full of play grounds. Got a savage feed in the Tavern in Murrisk. Finally a waltz around the fairy doors in Westport house.
Rain due tomorrow and with covid impacting on indoor stuff, I could be under pressure.
Ya I was thinking that alright. Era tis as much about occupying a bit of time if anything. I’ll take a spin around achill instead if it wall goes Pete Tong
Do you have to start in Westport or could you start in Mulranney?
There is an aquarium there. Weather too good to go in today.
