Mallow is an absolute dive but it’s a big town
Mallow is a huge town
It didn’t seem like that to me but it was a long time ago.
A lot of things prob seem small to you
You’d better believe it
The cork mafia are on it today
Will be in the dame tavern by 11 am on Wednesday morning. Thinking palace and maybe some peadear kearneys thrown in.
I was in town there earlier collecting the deeds of the house from the bank and I took a diversion through Dublin Castle. I could sense the ghosts of the two lads who ran Ireland for 800 years with two shillelaghs.
I parked on Werburgh St and as I was walking back to the car a woman fell clean off the footpath almost in slow motion. She had no idea how it had happened but she was shook.
A cosmopolitan city like Dublin really shines on a sunny evening. I had some business in town just now and there’s a real bonhomie around the Camden Street area with al fresco dining and drinking in the still quite warm evening sun.
Various tourists dragging suitcases like disobedient dogs, in Cork jerseys and drinking pints were encountered on my short stroll.
I eschewed the chance of a pint myself though not without reluctance and am now on way home with an overly ordered Chinese to watch the Eurovision of which my older lad, with the otherwise impeccable taste, is inexplicably (for now anyway…) a huge fan.
If the weather is as nice tomorrow I’ll have to stop in a cathedral or two after Croke Park.
If you are out tonight enjoy all our fair city has to offer.
I had some business in town this morning. Mid morning. I had decided last night that if the weather was fine I’d travel across the city by foot as I enjoy walking around Dublin with my AirPods in and some songs I like driving my pace and lifting my mood.
The weather played ball so I drove in to a convenient jumping off point. I’ve recently invested in a very nice bag to carry sunglasses, age induced reading glasses, AirPods case, maybe a kindle although not today as I didn’t plan on any reading stops as I find the pockets of my summer wardrobe inadequate to carry what I now require without destroying the silhouette of a well thought out outfit with ugly bulging pockets.
I passed two rough sleepers in a green and blue sleeping bag lying end to end head to foot. Their heads were covered and they seemed to still be asleep. One of them was wearing well worn Adidas Stan Smith trainers which were visible because the sleeping bag was wrapped around him rather than him being in it. I counted my blessings and carried on.
My route took me along the edge of St Stephens Green and on towards the retail centre of Dublin 2. A Viking boat drove by and the temporary vikings cheered. I was glad I was wearing the AirPods as it meant my deliberate ignoring of them could be explained as more favourable insouciance.
I carried on down South William Street cutting down Castle Market at Grogans. Coffee drinkers wearing sunglasses wandered around seemingly aimlessly. I pressed on.
I exited Exchequer Street at South Georges Street. On Dame Street I met about 8 late middle aged women standing at a bus stop who were all wearing the same sunglasses - white frames and dark lenses. I mused it must be some class of milestone birthday group as they seemed too old to be a hen party. It wasn’t yet 10am. As I crossed the Liffey I encountered a lad, who was probably 30 and seemed to be from foreign shores, standing at a traffic lights with no move to move and laughing to himself in a non threatening but intoxicated way. I pressed on. I remarked to myself that there are many empty shop units along the north Liffey and quite a few health and safety companies with offices in that area.
My business concluded. I started to retrace my steps.
I took this photo as it took me back to many drives along the quays in the left hand front seat of my dad’s car as we made our way to Croke Park. The colours of the Leinster finalists. After I took it i noticed a Leinster flag on next flag pole that would have made for a better photo but i pressed on.
In the river there was a group of lads in kayaks who were still together taking instructions. Presumably on how to treat Weils disease lest they fall in. Two of the group wore those wide brimmed “explorer” hats that only tourists and/or cunts wear.
As I came back the same route the coffees had been replaced by pints and tables.
A pink cowboy hat wearing woman pressed a bell on Dame Street and waved to a Northern Irish branded minibus across the street. I assume it contained the potential for a cackle of hen night women. I pressed on while musing what accommodation was behind that door.
I was getting hungry now as I don’t eat on Saturday mornings and hatched a plan to go to FXB butcher on Lower Pembroke Street. I stopped there on the way to the car and picked up two caramelised onion sausages and two pieces of rib eye.
The butcher had not seen the European Championship gold medal winning relay last night so I recommended he watch it “online”. I got the impression he won’t.
I had the sausages for my lunch just now. I’m not a fan of fancy sausages generally as I find their texture too meaty. These were nice tasting but I’d probably leave them off next time.
As I drove over the canal out of the city a young woman was kindly gesticulating directions to her friend as if blessing a congregation.
When I got home I realised I was so distracted I hadn’t put on the radio to hear the first election indications.
1 of the reasons im heading for Rathfarnham
My man on the ground there tells me your mate Laurence Kinlahan from Love Hate and the young lad of the Gleeson’s that does a bit of acting started up a few bars of Wonderwall when Chris was finished to great laughter from the crowd present.
Lar’s a bit fond of himself
Chris feeling the pain of Oasis hogging the spotlight. Liam had to sing with Coldplay at the benefit concert for the Manchester bombing because the event didn’t make business sense to Noel.
We are probably 15 years and another couple of divorces away from an Oasis/Coldplay Supergroup.
Some weekend for pints between the horse racing, rugby, nfl, international football and a couple of gaa
Games it’s a real festival feel.
