In The Courts

Knowingly not disclosing to her GP that she had a leg spasm and reversed into a load of cars a few years ago. Why would you not say that to your GP? I know 2 elderly people with MS who have given up the car keys in the last 2 years because they’ve started having spasms and don’t trust themselves.

Doesn’t mean she would have been barred from driving. Doesn’t make it right either but prison is a harsh sentence given her medical condition was known (and not like the other chap who wouldn’t disclose his peripheral vision issue a few years ago)

I don’t much about him tbh, but he’s certainly sending out a strong message with that sentence and also not deferring it until after Christmas

Yeah that’s the main bone of contention here, she seems to have caused serious damage hitting those cars so probably should’ve had her licence revoked there and then, you’d imagine someone would’ve picked up on it

She pleaded guilty. I don’t think the judge had much choice with one fatality and three serious injuries. She’ll probably get it down to a suspended sentence on appeal.

It’s harsh alright and not saying I agree with it but if I was that lad’s parents I’d be pretty upset with her knowing of the previous incident. Just highlights the inconsistencies between sentencing depending on whether the judge considers the victim’s impact.

Same chap as below (and lots more odd decisions). On the face of it, it’s impossible to reconcile these two decisions.

Maybe he was a big GAA man ? @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy

I hate to say it but I think the judge should be made honorary president of TFK misogyny crew. He seems to come down much harder on women.

That is scandalous.

Was that an attempted suicide?

I think I’ve nominated Nolan for COTY the last 2 years. He jailed the Garlic Man for 5 years and jailed that young female teacher for statutory rape but seems to believe aggravated sexual assaults and child porn are only worthy of suspended sentences.

This, I suspect

Maybe this Nolan chap just doesn’t like women?

You’d like killing someone to be given less weighting?

I think he would like grevious sex offences given more.

I didn’t get that from his post I must admit.

I wonder could someone forward this post to a journalist and see if they could make something of it

Me neither mate, but in the interest of balance.
It’s actually an interesting question or point about the law.
Are setting an example, such as “king hit” sentences fair?
Is it fair to prosecute or punish more harshly based on outcome? (ie you punch a lad, and he walks away, or falls, hits his head and dies)

Nolan’s decisions are well known to be “inconsistent”.

Very hard to get rid of a judge.
