Canned Carrott, which was made in the 80s, once had a sketch that stuck in my mind, where Jasper Carrott is in a restaurant and has finished his meal. There’s a house band playing soft music in the background.
Carrott backons the waiter. “Could I have the bill, please?”
The waiter goes: “Certainly, sir.”
The waiter then beckons the band.
In the background you hear the band leader go “1,2,3,4…”
Then the theme music from “The Bill” blares out.
A decade or two decades later, I was channel flicking one night and there was a sketch show by Norn Iron’s “Hole In The Wall Gang” on on BBC1. I left it on for a few minutes, and yer man who plays “Da” in “Give My Head Peace” is in a restaurant.
The point of it was that the Hole In The Wall Gang had obviously seen Carrott’s witty sketch from back in the day, and waited what must have been 15 or 20 years to steal it.
However, that’s a hell of a lot shorter than we’ll be waiting for you to ever make a witty comment on this forum, even a stolen one.
