I was talking to a female friend recently. She told me about the short time she spent working in Google and how it was like a cult. It’s an American company so everything has to be happy and everything amazing all the time.

My female friend said that right at the start Google gives all their new employees secret training on the correct use of emojis. A Google employee should never use a smiling emoji - too weak. Instead they should use the winking emoji as much as possible because it implies that the employee is “in the know” and holds the power in the relationship.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’ve never understood Twitter.

It reminds me of a place I once went for an interview in Dublin.

I came out of the interview thinking, who does any real work in this company? It was just all about codding customers into thinking they were getting a service. A company for bullshitters.

They list 800,000 Portuguese speakers and 1m Italian speakers in France, but no Arabic speakers counted for France. They also don’t attribute any Spanish speakers to France.

The grey segments with “+” for each language are meant to be all other countries, so presumably those examples fall into those buckets. How accurate the numbers actually are I cannot say.

I understand that the grey areas lump all the smaller quantities. But they listed a rake of countries with a million or less Arabic speakers. France would have several million, more than they do Italian or Portuguese speakers I would imagine, which get their own segment. Seems a bit arbitrary.
