A Turkish government official could not confirm the report but a statement from Prime Minister Ahmet Davutogluās office said the Turkish leader spoke with Turkeyās military chief and foreign ministry about the incident. It said Davutoglu would start āinitiativesā within NATO and the United Nations.
God help the aide who arrived in to say āMr Prime Minister, President Putin is on the other lineā¦ā
The Crimean War (October 1853 ā February 1856), also known in Russian historiography as the Eastern War of 1853ā1856 (Russian: ŠŠ¾ŃŃŠ¾ŃŠ½Š°Ń Š²Š¾Š¹Š½Š°, Vostochnaya Voina), was a conflict in which Russia lost to an alliance of France, the United Kingdom, the Ottoman Empire, and Sardinia. The immediate cause involved the rights of Christian minorities in the Holy Land, which was controlled by the Ottoman Empire. The French promoted the rights of Catholics, while Russia promoted those of the Eastern Orthodox Christians. The longer-term causes involved the decline of the Ottoman Empire and the unwillingness of the United Kingdom and France to allow Russia to gain territory and power at Ottoman expense.
The more things change etc. I wonder where the Sardines stand on this one.
