Wouldnt it be great if Robbies arrival could tempt Stevie Ireland back to Traps army in time for the Euros? Ah that’d just be tremendous.

He had his first good game in about 3 years against Chelsea recently. Not sure where the signing of Keane leaves him as surely Villa will go back to 442 now. Don’t think McLeish has thought this one through.
But anyway Robbie Keane the new Holte End Hero
As far as I remember Ireland seemed to have issues with Keane (?) so will be interesting to see if there is any fallout there.
Is the LA Galaxy move the best of Robbie’s career?
Absolutely nobody was willing to take gamble on him this time last year, and without kicking a ball, now basically had his pick of 3 decent clubs with which to spend 2 months?
Odds of him banging a few in for Villa, having a half decent Euros and going on to secure a one- year contract with a half decent side, a la Michael Owen?
Gibson said to be at Everton for a medical.
Didn’t he got to West Ham this time last year? I think there was a few clubs in for him…I recall Kev berating him for not going to Birmingham, for example. I’m surprised he’s gone on loan but it’ll be interesting, as you say, to see whether he actually has designs on getting a move back to Europe permanently or if he’s just looking to maintain his fitness levels with the Euros in mind.
He did alright. I don’t think Aston Villa is much of an improvement over who was in for him last year but at least the question marks over his future have been resolved and he’s settled with Galaxy where he’s doing well. I don’t see him angling for any sort of permanent move. McLeish did come in for him at Birmingham alright so is obviously renewing his interest now he’s with Villa.
A few English journalists seem to think Everton have a real bargain in getting Gibson for £1.5m. It’s not a big price anyway but he has a lot of improving to do before becoming a regular midfielder at any club. Obviously he has some talents but that’s all useless if he doesn’t get on the ball and if he doesn’t start moving it a bit quicker.
Gibson’s ‘talents’ are getting on the ball and moving it quick. He is pretty good at that.
Not so good at getting around the park and for a fairly big man he doesnt have much presence.

He doesn’t do it nearly often enough. Doesn’t impose himself on games.
I find him to be very slow in possession and he takes the pace out of attacks with his passing. Anyway he’ll have a chance at Everton to develop - you might even get to see him play both halves of a game.
Moyes will probably play him up front, he likes to play defenders in midfield, midfielders in attack and attackers on the bench.
nonsense on both counts. He isnt exactly Xavi but he is pretty good in possession. Doesnt hang onto the ball for long, can play it short and long and rarely loses the ball. Will be interesting to see how he gets on with regular football but he needs to improve a lot without the ball.

One thing I’ve noticed about Gibson is he always plays the ball the way he is facing, if he gets it from defence he puts it back there, if it’s layed back to him from ahead he’ll look up and pick a pass, or strike (which infairness seems to be his best talent), but he’ll rarely get it and turn and look or better again turn and run which for a man with his boot would lead to a lot more goals imo, he comes across as a bit dense and it seems that way football wise aswell
As opposed to Whelan and Andrews? If he can match their efforts without the ball, he is a much superior player to either with it.
Bit of confidence with regular football might be the trick for him. Needs to demand the ball more alright as he is pretty decent with it.
Everton is the right kind of club for him too. He needs to harden up a bit. Everton have tended to get a lot of goals from midfield over the years and Gibson can help here. Cahill seems to be struggling for a good while now so hopefully the Derry man can get in there and make an impact.
Id have a lot more faith in him coming good than the lad at Wigan.
£500,000 according to the Guardian. Ye nearly could’ve clubbed together and signed him for your astro outfit. He’d be good to have on the bench.
McCarthy is a far superior player to Gibson.
Gibson is shit and will never make it at top level in England in my opinion. That’s the unfortunate reality. If he was of any use why bring a 36 year old out of retirement? No other club have bothered showing an interest this time around as far as I know and Everton are only moving for him as they can’t afford anyone else. He’ll be warming their bench for most of the rest of the season. All lazy arguments but it’ll all happen.

No he isn’t. McCarthy is a nothing player on the evidence of the 10 or so times Ive seen him. Liam Miller mark 2.
