Ireland politics (Part 1)
I’ve decided that neither, FF, FG or Labour will be getting a vote from me in the upcoming elections *

 • I may have to revise this position as I’m don’t know any of the candidates from the other parties.
Christ, I checked the list of candidates and if I want to stick to the above I only have 3 candidates to choose from (I’m excluding Emmet O’Brien as he is FF but running as independent). 1 SF, 1 Anti Austerity and 1 independent

Vote Shinners, bro.

Charles J gets Children and Yoof Affairs
That’s a fucking joke-another Mammy O’Rourke. FG are starting to piss me off lately. Jobs for the boys(girls) all over again.

When the Shinners decide to get real about their economic manifesto I might give them a vote.

FG for me as it is all about the economy stupid

even though local elections have no direct impact we don’t want anything to deter Minister Noonan from his course

Castigated at the time for being the only party that campaigned against the fiscal treaty -now vindicated in that position IMO.
Castigated at the time as being crazy as the only party that threatened to “burn the bondholders” prior to the last election -now vindicated in that position IMO.
The only party proposing a third rate of tax for high earners, a proposition I have heard not a single convincing argument against.

No surprise there.

It would be a shame if anyone came in and undid his marvellous work such as, eh, the cuts to the carers allowance. A great victory for the Irish people.

I agree with that which is why I wouldn’t vote for them in a General Election yet and is what I told Chris Andrews last week when he came a-knocking. But these are only mickey mouse elections and I’d like to see the Shinners do well after all the blackguarding of Gerry last week.

What course is that?

You do know he is laughed at in Germany and not considered a serious politician at all.

Their protests were valid… there proposed solutions were comedy gold.

1200 jobs a week being created. The economy is recovering from a position where things seemed hopeless.

Without jobs you would have no taxes to pay any allowances.

Locally, if you have a good candidate, no matter what their colours, vote for them.

I doubt most Germans have a clue who he is. I have no idea who the German minister for Finance is.

Wolfgang Schauble. Though I wouldn’t expect Germans to know ours.

Noonan did that did he?

Shinners for winners

I actually wouldn’t be horrified if Sinn Fein emerges if it meant we got some kind of left-right split rather than the
inevitable rush to the middle and a diluted version of nothing.

Noonan has done a fine job though.

Irish tax rates are very low - for people on below 25/30k after which they are amongst highest in Europe.

marginal rate of tax is 52%

He created the environment. He didn’t introduce a penal third rate of tax, for example.

As I said, scorn was heaped upon them for taking those positions at the time, we’ll be pariahs of Europe, no one will ever lend to is again etc. Scaremongering. I don’t think we’d be in any worse off position now had we had adopted those positions rather than having had Enda being a good little boy for Angela. Of course now we will never know.
