Ireland politics (Part 1)

What has been a difficult week for Enda with is stroke pulling in getting a McNulty a nomination for the Seanad could get a bit more difficult with that a pissed off former Minister for Justice Alan Shatter appearing on the Late Late Show tomorrow night.

Varadkar must be loving this.

There’ll be a push from the back benches and he’ll accept that he has to challenge for the leadership for ‘the good of the party and the good of the country’.

Varadkar shot himself in the foot earlier this week when he said he didn’t see anything wrong with McNulty’s nomination.

Sure all he’ll have to do is say that he was not aware of the all the facts at hand and that he was only commenting based on the information made available.

A High Court judge was due to rule this week on whether Taoiseach Enda Kenny's controversial candidate for a vacant Seanad seat was actually qualified to run. But an official objection to the candidacy of Fine Gael activist John McNulty was dropped after it was revealed he was a member of the board of an art gallery.

However, Mr McNulty’s made no mention of the fact he was only appointed to the board of the Irish Museum of Modern Art by the Coalition just 10 days earlier.

(As an aside, since when has it become ok to start a sentence with “But”?)

The guy that lodged the objection was on the radio this morning and he was slating McNulty. The guy said that he withdrew the objection when he heard McNulty was on the IMMA board as he wasn’t aware he was on it when he lodged the objection. It was only after that meeting that he found out McNulty was only on the board a few days. He said McNulty just sat in the meeting and said nothing and the guy that lodged the complaint even apologised.

This guy McNulty would be best off withdrawing his nomination and save some dignity and hope that by the time an election comes round people will have forgot. He couldn’t even get elected in the local elections, he finished 10th.

John Deasy went on some rant on the news at one on RTE today. He laid into Enda, I will have to have a listen to the show.

Who do you think gives a fuck about your thoughts on John Deasy? Would you kindly fuck off please you stupid cunt.

The knives must be sharpening for Kenny. Seems a FF TD was conveniently tipped off about a meeting Edna supposedly held with John McNulty back in June where McNulty was promised the bye-election seat.

McNulty has narrowly lost the Seanad by-election to Gerard Craughwell 29 votes to 31.

Was there not some SF bird going for it aswell TS ?

She got bitch slapped.

Yeah, there was, eliminated after the first count. The figures quoted above are completely off the mark, it was 98 to 85 on the final count.
Funnily enough, a lot of Opposition TD’s voted for McNulty in an attempt to to prolong the shitstorm for the Gov.

The Government now no longer has a majority in the upper house (that could be where I got the 29 to 31 figure?)

This Alan Kelly Minister for the Environment is a hopeless case. Fuck me but is this the best the Labour Party have to offer.

I dislike him a lot. Read an interesting article about him and his bro in the Phoenix a while back. Painted them as power hungry wankers.

Oh yeah I never told anyone this before but I was once homeless too. How handy.

Friend of Liam sheedy

they are both from the same small parish. they have great comunity spirit up there.
kellys brother declan is seemingly the brains of the operation pulling the strings behind the scenes.

I generally think O’Toole is pretty spot on, but I like this clamping of Pat Rabbitte’s recent whine in the Irish Times.
