Ireland politics (Part 1)

I donā€™t believe in abortions as a form of contraceptionā€¦ Iā€™d be staunchly in favour of passing the motion but leaning more towards where a womanā€™s life is in danger, fatal foetal etc and of course victims of rape and abuseā€¦ For regular Janes, Iā€™d be limiting it to a very short windowā€¦

While I do think it might pass, I know a quite a few people who voted yes to gay marriage but will vote no to this unless they do an excellent job of convincing people that abortion on demand isnā€™t the next step.

Sticking in murderā€¦nice touchā€¦especially when itā€™s never a choice youā€™ll have to make, you stupid cunt.

Weā€™ll wait and see. In reality we are very out of step with most of the developed world and think that the outcome is going to be an eye opener to how backward the current situation in Ireland is/was - same as marriage equality and divorce were.

Not quite that far!

Would be fairly moderate but I just canā€™t willingly vote for something knowing that foetuses/children will be terminated.

Anyway thereā€™s going to be nine months of to and fro regarding this issue, thereā€™ll be horrible extremists on both sides so best not to get into it too deeply at this early stage.

Governments promising theyā€™ll do x y or z after a referendum is dangerous road to go down, dunno how theyā€™ll play this one.

Thatā€™s what it is in most cases mate. Iā€™d actually be of a similar view to yourself. If the womanā€™s life is in danger or it was a rape case I would allow it but not at all for regular people. As I said it depends on how its worded which way Iā€™ll vote

So people who hold a different view to yours are ā€œbackwardā€?

Thatā€™s what I mean when I say people on the liberal side jump off the handle at people who hold a differing view.

That is happening now dodgy, they are being terminated. That fact should be the starting point for this. Then you can legislate to limit it, make it safe, whatever else.

I think youā€™d struggle to find any women who believe in abortion as a form of contraception.

Isnā€™t that allowed now?

Where did I say that? I said the situation is backward.

Irish women get abortions every day and we put our heads the sand and pretend it isnā€™t happening. That is backward.

Throwing in words like murder wonā€™t get us anywhereā€¦ Some of the greatest modern minds have tried to determine what life isā€¦ Is it consciousness? Is it a semi formed foetus? Or even a few weeks old foetus? You need to determine what life is before you can call it murderā€¦

Lowering the voting age is a good one anyway, at least we can all agree on that.

You know what I mean mateā€¦thereā€™s plenty of recorded cases in England where women have gotten 5/6 terminations.

Fair enough

Nothing wrong with the current voting age.

Thatā€™s true, but being out of step with the rest of the world makes fuck all difference to whether it will pass. Our culture is our culture. And the reality is that abortion is very rarely spoken of and is still seen as shameful in some ways. Otherwise why would so many women hide the fact that theyā€™re travelling for abortions.

Happy enough with current voting age.
Donā€™t see any need to change.

Agree- itā€™s the other end of spectrum should be tackled. No voting once your over 70
