Ireland politics (Part 1)

This referendum campaign in the height of Championship season could be the time we see the emergence of the first professional tfk contributor as lads pack in their jobs so they can give this their best shot.

We will then have acrimony and debate over who deserves a dinner.

Nah, it’s pissing rain here. Just walked the little one to school, dropped Spiderman to creche and I’m about to do some yoga after I finish this shit. Then I’ve a load of scheduling/office stuff to do before I hit town for some hobby work later. If the weather picks up I’ll cycle in and it’ll be lovely.
You should reconsider your stance on tracksuits by the way, they’re great.

I think I was 14 the last time I wore a tracksuit… I can’t wear them personally, I find them beneath me.

What would your casual bottoms of choice be?

Out and about I wear regular clothes - chinos, jeans etc etc — Indoors, largely football togs or the odd time a pair of hand crafted fisherman pants I picked up in Luang Prabang in Loas a few years ago- but mainly football togs… actually find myself wearing shorts a lot more these days now that I think about it… say we were going to the market on Sunday for coffee and a munch, I’d throw on a hoody and shorts no matter what time of year…

I just think tracksuits look scummy personally and I wouldn’t feel comfortable in one, particularly out in public.

The test needn’t be too difficult, just enough to weed out your Michael Lowry and Healy-Rae voters. Sample Questions like 1+1 = ? or Continue the following sequence A,B,C,?

On a good day I’d be hopeful of getting question 1 correct and hope that would be enough to sneak me in.

I’d be ok with barring anyone who posts on an internet forum a vote. Bunch of fucking cranks and weirdos the lot of them.

I think it will have to be a repeal or not choice. The constitution is not the place to legislate for complicated issues. In fact, it’s been cowardly on behalf of successive governments not to grasp this nettle and try hide behind the constitution. Like everything else it will then be for the government to legislate for.

It happens, are you saying it doesn’t matter unless the number is big enough?

IrishTimes say 1 in 20 rapes lead to pregnancy… about 80/90 a year … and that’s just those reported of course.

@Nembo_Kid?

And how many consensual pregnancies will be aborted every year? The greater good.

So, to answer the original question, you’re happy to say that to a rape victim?

Ah this is silly. Using extreme cases (like pregnant rape victims) to try to win an argument is as silly as ‘so you’re ok with murdering babies.’
Your earlier point was that we’re ignoring thousands of Irish women who travel for abortions every year. I think that’s an entirely reasonable place to come from. It’s people going nuts about extremities that fuck up any discussion of this.

The greater good ? Using that logic you can excuse nearly any action – Killing Jews was for the greater good of Germany.

You’re a bluffer, mate – hiding behind printers. Would you relay your feelings to a rape victim seeking an abortion ? As I said before, it’s grand for a male virgin who will never have to face this choice… youre basically forcing women in these situations to have children with no regard for their mental or physical health nor for their individual rights… you’re advocating state sponsored reproductive coercion - the kind of system that had mental institutions and laundry houses booming for years.

Good point. My laundry has been severely neglected. We need laundry houses back.

What the fuck is your wife doing?

This will put the gay marriage referendum in the ha’penny place. Leo will get a lovely honeymoon period while everyone is screaming at each other about abortion
