Look at the bitching going on in here already, and the thing not even fucking put forward yet? And we some of the most good natured, well intentioned forums on tâinternet.
Itâs not silly in the slightest - the treatment of pregnant rape victims has been one of the key elements of abortion debate in Ireland for decades.
Iâll repeat verbatim what I said in response to a similar silly point by you a year ago. It was a silly âpointâ then and itâs a silly âpointâ now.
Extreme examples can and do happen on a reasonably frequent basis.
Those who want to defend the status quo should be able to provide answers as to what they think should happen in such cases, otherwise they havenât thought their position through properly.
What youâre trying to do here is to de-legitimise extreme cases as a topic for discussion, when theyâre actually central to the debate - the Savita case was pretty much the sole reason for movement on the X Case legislation. Itâs the extreme cases that show up so glaringly the injustice of the current constitutional position. Limiting the terms of discussion is not something you have power over on this forum, as far as Iâm aware.
Iâm saying for the greater good. Willy nilly abortions will see hundreds of lives terminated a year before they begin . Are you happy with that?
How about we encourage sexual maturity and restraint among people rather than terminating lives before they start?
Hard cases make bad law is an adage or legal maxim. The phrase means that an extreme case is a poor basis for a general law that would cover a wider range of less extreme cases. In other words, a general law is better drafted for the average circumstance as this will be more common.
I could be all theatrical and ask you to say the same to a dead feoutus but they would have no right if response because their parent(s) decided they didnât deserve to live.
How can you terminate a life before it begins? Youâre saying itâs not life and thus should have no problem with abortion⌠make up your mind
By aborting a pregnancy.
Why are you dodging the question?
If it hasnât begun itâs not a life. Youâre all over the place
Iâm not dodging any question. Iâm calling out your false analogies. I think abortion is wrong. If people practised sexual restraint then abortions are not needed. You seem itâs fine for people to take risks and then run away from the consequences, donât have sex if you donât want to father a child with that person.
You sound like a coward, a man afraid to face up to consequences of their actions
You were asked about rape victims.
The have the right of life taken away before its started. We all start out as a feoutus, you might hit be here if abortion was legal when you were born.
If life hasnât started then itâs not a life
Itâs a discussion about abortion which you are trying to divert from.
Abortions happen because pregnancies occur. I would estimate there are more abortions for unplanned pregnancies than rape victims do itâs bizarre your whole mantra for allowing the right a large nsjority to live is due to a tiny minority of rape victims.
The greater good.
It has started.
You are saying that forcing rape victims to carry a baby to full term anf give birth to it after being raped is for the greater good of society?
No. Youâre harping on about rape victims.
I am not saying that, I am saying the greater good is not denying thousands of unborn kids the right to live. Maybe you can square them off as youâre completely disregarding one side of the argument, you little Nazi.
Youâre trying to avoid a direct question which has been put to you a number of times, you pathetic little shit.
Iâm sure by the time the referendum comes around weâll have reached a consensus on the forum
If Varadkar stands up like a man then this is what will happen in Ireland, abortion in extreme circumstances. if he shys away from proper debate with the permanently outraged and lets them have what they want then we will have drive thru abortion clinics appearing round the country within 5 years
