Who was the minister that use to have phones in the boot of the car to give to constituents or whoever because of the long wait to get a phone? For some reason I always thought it was Reynolds.

Did roasters not realise the mobile phone was not yet invented and it needed to be wired up to an exchange ?

I think that was Reynolds alright.
I know but the connection rather than the physical phone was the delay.
The P and T lads had to come, put up a hut and then open the footpath to connect you to the exchange

In fairness they were scraping the barrel to get candidates with a ribbon last time so I’d say the parliamentary assistants are broadly idiots. Wouldn’t be the only party with that though.
Most the parliamentary assistants I’ve met are far more capable than the heroes they work for.
I remember having a similar conversation with Electric Ireland a few years back. Conversation went roughly like this.
Them: 15% off Gas, 15% off electricity. 30% off altogether.
Me: (Laughter) Eh, no!
Them: What do you mean?
Me: That’s not 30% off.
Them: Yes it is. 15 + 15 = 30%
Me: But they’re two separate bills. It’s still 15%. It’s 30% of 200%.
(Silence)
Them: Oh… Em… OK.
