Ireland politics (Part 2)

Was there a Gavin O’Reilly thread on twitter explaining that these motions are essentially worthless or am I confusing this with something else

The motion is non-binding on the government as per the IT report I just read. Posture politics

Only money bills or a no confidence motion can bring down a government

More of an embarrassment exercise to force Government TD’s to show there colours. Just another stick to beat them with a election time.

I see the 2 green party TD’s that voted for the SF motion then voted with the government on the 450million developer deal.

Carbon neutral cement being used I take it

Needs big Bob there to protect the Taoiseach from possible assailants, upset at a last minute vote, who try to get at him as he leaves the pitch…sorry chamber😀

This came across my timeline today. Thinking it was a satire account like the one english one Rosie Holt, i was pleasantly surprised to learn that no, this was actually real and this one had campaigned for months to het An Post to change the name of Passport Express. Well done to her, she looks delighted with some real hard work and making a huge change for the people.

Absolutely.

PROBLEM - there are delays to postal applications for first time passport requests

FINE GAEL SOLUTION - campaign for months to change the name of the service

Lets get those votes in! Great initiative in these TDs. I mean, she could have actually campaigned to have the service sped up, but i suppose the best solution really was to change the name. She looks very happy anyway.

Jesus when you put it like that it’d make you wonder what bubble a politician like this lives in.

for her next campaign she plans to remove health from the name of the HSE

Some good campaigns for her to get into in the comments

SF higher than FFG in a red C in business post. Surely big news seeing as it’s a first

The housing / renting crisis is boiling over… SF will get even higher support in the coming months as they look to pull the government down.
