They didnât really though. Between 2022 and 2023 there was a near 13% increase in home completions in Q4.
Between Q4 of 2023 and 2024 there was a drop of 15% (1,500).
The numbers fluctuate depending on variables, with there been a lot of large schemes on the books.
Iâd remind you that Housing Commission hotshot Ronan Lyons said in August 2023 predicted;
The Government currently estimates that its target of 24,600 completions this year is likely to be beaten. However, a significant fall in commencements over the course of 2022 may result in fewer than 20,000 completions in 2023, according to Mr Lyons.
There were 33k built in 2023. So he was very wrong in undercooking that.
Youâll get predictions either side of these numbers that are all over the shop.
Thereâs slanting and twisting but I think in Ireland for the most part weâve had relatively good standards from our mainstream politicians, they donât generally lie to mislead the public. I think they did here, bigly.
No it hasnât. Itâs been established that Jack Chambers received a briefing from the Department of Finance. Thatâs not the Department of Housing. Thatâs not any number of others with predictions. There are ongoing estimates by various different actors.
It is now virtually impossible to predict completions. There was at one stage a lag from commencements to completions that was reasonably sound. The Central Bank predicted 35k in March 2024 but crucially, the commencements boom was really only underway then.
Yeah cause finance would have no connection to housing. Iâd say theyâd be writing briefings about housing and not even running it by the relevant department. You are talking complete shite would you ever go away out of it.
