I heard another interview today and I think it was with housing minister. He kept calling it house-ing. It was really bugging me.
Another thing, theyâve a first time Minister thrown in as the fella to get the single most important issue in the country sorted.
I remarked on his pronunciation myself. Half-minister Jerry Buttimer is the name youâre looking for.
Thanks mate. I think itâs effective when someone else repeats points Iâve already made for added emphasis.
That just goes to show that they donât give a fuck about it.
Exactly that. Itâs baked in now and weâll muddle on is the attitude.
The statement on 40k was made in April 2024 by Simon Harris. Again, the opposition reacted with auction politics on housing numbers, saying 40k wasnât a lot.
This in itself is quite odd as 40k is a lot of homes. Hopefully we do actually get there in the next year or so.
Simon Harris mentioned 40,000 homes in April 2024 based on Deutsche Bank figures.
That was the point, Iâm not sure why this is so hard to grasp.
Oh yeah for sure, the two main parties in Ireland who have been decimated electorally over this issue definitely donât care.
Defaulting to conspiracy seems to be the order of the day when people canât talk policy.
You really mean criticism of the policy that has us where we are an anathema to your good self who believes those who broke it are best placed to fix it⌠despite evidence to the contrary
Criticism of policies is fine, but thatâs not what that kind of discussion is. Saying they donât want to fix it is just a moronic line to go down. Politicians are cynical fuckers and their goal is to be reelected. That has proven to be a challenge for the historic main two parties of late. Do you reckon the dozens of ex TDs of the last 10-15 years who lost their seat on the back of it (Labour ones included) are happy about that?
Iâd remind you all that Ireland is building a lot of houses right now. The economic success of the country and empathy for refugees has put additional strain on the country and is making it a bigger challenge to make up the housing shortfall.
No that wasnât the point. They were still mentioning 40k homes or approaching that during the election, by which time they knew they were getting nowhere near 40. That was the point.
Do you have any point here? My point is that Harris and Martin both knew during the election campaign that completions would only be just above 30000. And they repeatedly shouted down anyone who challenged them on the issue.
You are apportioning blame to the opposition somehow? Should they have built houses?
Yes, this was the point. That said, everyone got sick shit of that specky dick OâBroin prattling on about housing in around H1 â23. But sure you couldnât be quoting full year projections in November â24 based on April â24 projections from a third party if your own actual numbers as of end September â24 showed materially worse figures than the other ones. You just couldnât lads, you couldnât.
I made the point that 40,000 was not really challenged at the time it was suggested (April 2024) and what we got instead was auction politics of higher housing numbers.
Towards the end of the year there were some more criticisms but thatâs it really.
The truth is that few people have a decent handle on it.
More lies. Itâs quite clear they knew well where they were at and misrepresented by 10k.
They didnât really though. Between 2022 and 2023 there was a near 13% increase in home completions in Q4.
Between Q4 of 2023 and 2024 there was a drop of 15% (1,500).
The numbers fluctuate depending on variables, with there been a lot of large schemes on the books.
Iâd remind you that Housing Commission hotshot Ronan Lyons said in August 2023 predicted;
The Government currently estimates that its target of 24,600 completions this year is likely to be beaten. However, a significant fall in commencements over the course of 2022 may result in fewer than 20,000 completions in 2023, according to Mr Lyons.
There were 33k built in 2023. So he was very wrong in undercooking that.
Youâll get predictions either side of these numbers that are all over the shop.
This is the same as housing demand numbers too.
Unfortunately not, they donât really have a clue. Particularly now that there were so many commencements in 2024.
So youâre saying that theyâre just shit at their jobs, fair enough.
