Not sure how sustainable it is into the future now that mnc employment rates have plateaued here and dropped in many sectors. We are probably more exposed to advances in AI Techology than most.

I know the thing looks very healthy & @Tim_Riggins will have the comparative data to back it up versus other euro area nations across a whole range of metrics (notwithstanding the “nuances” of the MNC contribution to headline figures). I equally accept that talk of people on the ground not seeing the benefits of the wider economy going gangbusters is anecdotal, but I myself find I’ve very little left at the end of the month once you take the açai bowls & Bailey Coffees into account. Si Harris won’t win an award for messaging but his fundamental point is fair - something definitely has to give for the people who get up to log in from home in the morning.

This is where you and many others have it badly wrong. GDP is not related to individual, household or even national wealth. GDP is merely multinational activity- profits being run through Ireland, intellectual property and exports etc etc which all make up this bloated GDP. However, Irelands domestic economy actually fell by 0.8% - this is a far more relevant stat on who is wheels and who is not.
Ireland has the 2nd highest GDP yet household consumption is just below EU average. In otherwords, we’re rich in stats but the average household is actually below the EU average when it comes to spending power.
So, We have below average spending power despite our GDP and wages - because GDP is multinational activity and we, the individuals have the highest housing prices and we rank in the top 2 for food/ heating and other necessities…
Ireland is a very wealthy economy on paper, but that wealth does not flow directly or proportionately into the pockets of the average person. Fact. High wages are being heavily absorbed by mortgages or rent, food, energy, transport and other expenses.
And Much of that wealth on paper is probably based on house prices than reality…
So when you start fist pumping GDP figures, you’re pissing down our backs while it’s raining.

Where do you find stats that show peoples disposable income and where do we rank among other countries?
My understanding is gross income is about 8th and about 10% above average… but net is below eu average. I think we’re near enough France and Sweden for median income and we have 5000% more GDP

While reading a harmless story about winter/summer time I felt a sudden rage when I saw the below paragraph, he’s a hungry bollox, talk about a makey up committee even if it is at EU level…
Fine Gael MEP Seán Kelly has led a campaign in the EU for the biannual changes to be removed.
Kelly, who is chair of the European Parliament’s Working Group on the Biannual Clock Change, has argued the benefits for “mental and physical health” of putting clocks forward and leaving them as such are “undeniable”.
Would definitely be interesting to see those figures. It’s weird that people are definitely being squeezed but then you see massive crowds and people firing money over snack and drink counters at the likes of united v Leeds and Katie Taylor. Neither of which would be attracting an ABC1 type crowd

There’s lots of people that want rid of daylight savings for various reasons that I can’t recount but obviously one country moving on it alone would be a mess so if it’s to be changed it has to be the EU all moving together, plus Britain ideally. There’s probably a good bit to consider so it make sense to me they’d have a committee on it, even if Kelly is a dose.

Someone else can do the needful with the archive machine but this is a good piece. O’Callaghan strikes me as complete arsehole with hard right tendencies and no political sense. He’d be right at home in the blue shirts of old or in Reform or the Afd. A wanker.
