Ireland v Denmark 18/11/2019

Sweet baby Jesus

Duffy is supposed to be running the back four and drops a good few yards deeper. He’s not talking to anyone and isn’t trying to push them out. Yes Doherty should have gone with him but his man should be well off.

Ireland honestly were less bad than usual. Denmark were less good. Denmark lost two starters early doors, were away from home, were distinctly average. We nearly milwalled them, but jaysus, we weren’t that great. People waxing lyrical about lads trying hard in a must win home game in a national shirt. Is this what we’ve come to?

UEFA are trying to rig it that none of the hosts can be in the same pools for the playoffs. But Hungary will fuck that up if they don’t qualify automatically. I suppose they can do the draw on the basis that the teams in group b will be treated as Ireland, so whoever comes through will end up in the Dublin group. If you know what I mean. I don’t know how they can do the draw if Hungary fuck it up though

Yes that’s what we’ve come to. And we’re ok with that. It’s all we’ve got.

Duffy completely at fault for the goal from the limited replays I saw. Way out of line.

We haven’t the players mate.

You are very negative

I agree that Duffy fucked up, but Doherty didn’t even try to go with him, he just fell asleep completely. And that’s why Mick will pick Coleman.

Coleman is finished.

What if they were treated as Hungary?

Could we get another 5 million in compo?

The danish goalscorer was appalling for the Doherty goal . Never tracked and he knew it .

Doherty also needlessly aggressive in challenges and displayed poor technique.

Did well going forward though - Coleman is way off where he used to be.

Mick will pick Coleman because he doesn’t change from what he’s used to unless he absolutely has to. And because he’s ultra defensive and risk averse. Hence sending out a team devoid of pace to fight like dogs instead of even giving them a punchers chance.

Great post. This papers the cracks again for a few months as the fans are happy to accept mediocrity.

I agree on Coleman and I do like Doherty when he goes forward. But the goal wasn’t the only example of him being a little lazy defensively. I just don’t think Mick will pick him.

That said, Stevens hasn’t been great in the campaign but he was excellent all-round tonight.

I am. People creaming themselves over lads actually trying. It was a pre Christmas, packed out, winner take all game at home. Its odd that this is even a thing

Isn’t the whole point of playing offside letting him go? You can’t say both Duffy and Doherty were at fault. Maybe it was a simple lack of communication. Either Duffy doesn’t drop and he’s off side or else Doherty should follow him. The players did neither. You seem to be arguing both points. If you watch the reply Doherty starts to run and immediately stops.

No offence mate but you clearly having been following the Irish soccer team so you can’t really comment.

Look at Doherty’s position! He can see that Duffy has dropped off, he cannot afford to stop.
