He said he purposely used the North for his own agenda but never felt it was his country and that he wanted to play for Ireland as he is Irish.

Ah I dont know ā¦ Once a young catholic becomes truly aware of what playing for the north means I dont think they have much of an option ā¦ Bit of bravado from James iād say thrown in there. I personally see no issue with Rice / Grealish etc. They grew up in England .
I should have said Iād no real issue with Rice either and his final decision. Grew up English but with some Irish family etc. Good luck to him
Where are Riceās people from in Ireland.
The reality is as kids , your life is your family / father ā¦ both those lads had Irish fathers who supported the Irish soccer team and Irish sports ā¦ as a kid you want to please your family etc. etc ā¦ you then grow up and have your own identity. Playing for Ireland was right for them as kids ā as adults they have different ideas of what identity / life means. Same with McClean.
