Speedy recovery all the same ‘Gibbo’.[/quote]

And a misplaced Andy Reid pass forced Gibson into the challenge too.

I loved the bit where Dunphy brought up the TV license and then suddenly realised that had no connection to Noel King whatsoever

He then reverted to his usual spiel about the ‘guy on the street’ who he has a both a unique understanding of and heartfelt appreciation for. The worst of the sindo hacks love that approach as well.

People who are not up to international standard:
Wilson
People who are no longer up to international standard:
Doyle
People who should retire:
Keane, Dunne
People who refused to play for their country and should never be allowed play again:
Gibson
People who are good enough but need a kick up the hole:
McCarthy

I think Coleman would be a far more effective right winger or at least right wing back. Himself & Brady either side of a back 3 wouldn’t be bad.

We have a serious shortages at centre back

Brady couldn’t play as a wing back. McClean probably has the natural athleticism and stamina to play there but he’s not very good.

Ireland’s biggest problem for me is the centre backs. There is an appalling lack of any decent option. I actually think O’Dea is the best of a bad bunch.

True on the centre backs so, while wing back would suit Coleman, it’s not really an option as that would mean playing three centre backs. Never mind having a lack of good defenders for the role, we also have nobody capable of passing it out from the back which is crucial in a back three.

I wonder could someone convert McClean into a left back. He’s not a good defender at the moment but it’s probably the easiest position to learn and he’s energetic and quick which are good attributes for the position.

Kilbane style. As Jamie Carragher says wing backs are either failed wingers or failed centre halves

Rob Jones played left wing back for Liverpool. He was a very good right back and due to the stubbornness of Roy Evans with his 3 centre halves, he ended up over there.

How many ex centre halves have been wing backs?
