I think Forde’s been good overall but I also reckon there’s an undercurrent of shitness waiting to explode. Actually, that trundler from Anders Svensson that beat him at his near post when we lost 2-1 to Sweden was crap goalkeeping.
37, 595 were at it according to the Indo. That’s not too shabby.
Disagree on Forde, Rocko. I think his distribution is poor but he’s a good shot stopper and commands his box well enough. He’s made several vital and excellent saves in various matches at this stage. If he’s started a dozen games or so up to now and hasn’t made a high profile error, then that’s good going in my book.
They sold 37,595 tickets which is not the same. That includes all of the premium and per sold tickets whether the owners turned up or not.
I’ll have words with my intern who lifted it from twitter… Is he looking at a stretch inside? Be great if he could add to our crime thread when he comes out the other side.
So long as he does the business for us, I don’t care about that. He seems to relish playing for Ireland and grows in stature, if that doesn’t sound too bent. He also has a better defence in front of him (marginally, I know, but Millwall aren’t very good).
Westwood appears to be much more talented but is either injured or not playing games. And we saw how Given was when he wasn’t playing at club level. You can’t take the risk.
Elliot is the only other keeper involved at EPL level but I read on his Wiki that he’s already 27 and was once second choice to Nicky Weaver so I wouldn’t be holding out too much hope in that regard.
Elliott is absolutely shit
Firstly, he’s not supposed to be in two positions at once - he’s supposed to choose the one advantageous position.
Secondly, his primary job is not to stand in a position that means a harmless floated ball will drift into the goal. “If it had been a cross he was positioned well” is the most damning compliment I’ve possibly ever seen made about a goalkeeper.

Utter bollocks. Anyone would expect a cross from a player in that position. In that regard he was positioned fine. The player either did it on purpose or by accident, it’s neither here nor there, and Forde got back into a position to superbly tip the ball over the bar. If you’re finding fault with him for that, you’re just nitpicking in my opinion.
And just to re-iterate. It didn’t “drift into the goal”. He saved it.

Firstly I have lunch regularly with a former top class goalkeeper so I know a thing or two about the position.
Secondly, nearly getting caught out from there was poor positioning.
Thirdly, even if his positioning was ok, then he was dreadfully slow to recover.
His job is to prevent goals, not to be in a position to defend crosses that would have been fine if a player had hypothetically crossed the ball.
If you’re playing hypothetical then hand the ball gone in he’d have looked stupid and nobody would say “well that was fucking appalling but by God he was nicely set for a cross.”
Really? That’s the measure of him now is it?
And he was also poor for their second goal when he collapsed to the ground like a man having a heart attack instead of diving at the ball or attacker.
Not conceding goals? Yeah, I’d take that from a keeper. Seems about right.
As for the goals last night. Every single other person has said that Forde had no chance for either goal.
Except you. Now.
Give it up, pal. He’s a decent keeper. And I know you’d love to see @Bandage in there but until he moves to a higher level you’ll have to accept that he’s not going to be noticed by MON or Keano.
I thought Forde was shit for the second goal. He did a forward belly flop as the ball rolled into the goal a yard to the side of him. He’s very weak on his left side actually. @ClarkeyCat played with him for Galway United and he says he’s shit too. That’s that then.

It’s a real hallmark of a simpleton to argue that no goal equals good goalkeeping.
For the second goal the ball is hit straight at him and goes in off his knee. If he stayed where he was before flopping to his knees he’d have saved it. Or if he actually went for the ball he’d have given himself a chance.
He may be a lovely man but he’s not a good goalkeeper at the standard we need unfortunately.

A number of minutes ago you said his job was to prevent goals, which he did in the incident you were referencing. This is nearly as bad as the time you were trying to compliment Fat Gary Hooper (now 14 hours of Premiership football without a goal) for “occupying” defenders.
