Just on the cusp, he’ll no doubt be back, but you need to weigh up the “rested/match fit” balance.
I saw a bit of Chris Coleman on Sky Sports the other night. He was in studio with Carragher for the Monday night game and he spent a bit of time explaining the genius of his Wales 3-4-2-1 system. It gives Bale and Ramsey a free role behind the striker but there’s always 5 players (2 midfield holders and the 3 centre backs) behind the ball to provide defensive shape and solidity. It struck me as a sales pitch to get an EPL job. He seemed keen to speak with Hull about their vacancy at the start of the season but held off. I reckon he knows he’s no chance of repeating what he’s already achieved with Wales and wants EPL managerial money off the back of it. He could be gone before this game in March to take over at somewhere like Crystal Palace.
This viewpoint could be gold.
He also did Goals on Sunday last weekend where he did something similar, explaining formations and how he had learned from watching the top coaches in the EPL.
Spot on I’d say
I know that opposition coaches / scouts will be well capable of figuring out the strengths and weaknesses of any formation so the manager himself actually explaining the pros and cons of it isn’t that much of a giveaway. But it still struck me as strange to see him take the opportunity to publicly deconstruct his own way of playing / setting up the team and I concluded that he’s got this EPL management role motive.
Bale is reportedly out till the middle of April. Massive news if true.
Early Christmas present if true because they are useless without him,put the foot on their throat a win kills them off in the group.
You know what they say. Better lucky then rich. If all this is true, Keane and O’Neill are steeped in it.
That’s not what they say
Depend who “they” are, may he mean idiots.
An extremely rare case of the faulty commentator’s eye here.
Shane Duffy has a broken metatarsal and will miss the game. That’s a disaster for Ireland and will bring O’Shea or Keogh back into the fold.
cc @mickee321
id have no issues with Keogh coming in for SD really bandage
O’Shea whilst utterly apalling at club rarely plays badly for us
who have wales got up front?
if its some ape like Hal Robson Kanu , JOS will be ok
A complete disaster as he has been playing very well lately along with Clark.Walters,Duffy and Brady all out now and a huge test of our squad is in store.
Walters was back in the Stoke squad on Saturday but was kept on the bench.
What’s up with Brady?
Suspended. Why are you supporting Wales?
Suspended over a stupid booking of kicking the ball away against Austria.
WYT
i dont think he has been playing well alongside clark,
he did v well v italy, he’s a bit like Mcshane, great first game v Jan Koller in 2006 but then badly exposed,
against Moldova he was horiffic , cant remember if he started in belgrade but that was a complete clusterfuck at times also
Austria, ok , ill give him that one
Think he was suspended in Serbia for the red card against France in the Euros.
