Shane Long was 4 years younger, McClean, Duffy were on the way up likewise Hendrick and Brady, now all are on the way down. At present we have no players in that 25 to 29 age group. You slate Connolly constantly but now you say he is a main player? Team 5 years ago we had McGeady and Hoolahan on the bench. What would we give for the 2 of them now.
Your point was we had players back then that were playing regular EPL football and weren’t now.
Molumby, Knight Connolly and O’Shea etc are on the way up now. Doherty and Coleman are all playing regular top half table football for EPL clubs.
There’s not a huge differential in terms of talent available there to presently.
They are all 20/21. Hendrick, Brady, Duffy were all 24/25 in 2016, way more experience.
Hendrick had played no EPL football at that point in his career, Duffy might have played a handful of EPL games.
You’re trying to construct an argument where the facts are going to let you down.
There was actually much more EPL experience in the team that played against Qatar during the week than the one that beat Italy in 2016.
Hendrick was an established championship player. Duffy was a regular at Blackburn.
And now Hendrick is an established EPL, player. Duffy has played close to 100 EPL games.
Connolly is an established EPL player. So is Doherty. So is Stevens.
Forgetting the fact that Duffy cant get a game in a pub league and Hendrick likewise at Newcastle.
Hendrick has played 19 games for Newcastle this season.
Duffy is finding the step up at Celtic very challenging alright.
