The Irish health service isnāt good enough. It hasnāt been for years. We deserve better. We should be demanding improvements but there seems to be a learned helplsssness about it all at this stage.
For the amount of money pumped into it,itās a fuckin shambles.
Affidea is the Irish life health swiftcare equivalent. Touch wood we havenāt had much kid issues but would always ring Tallaght hospital first to see how busy they are before going to Crumlin or Temple st.
Affidea was a great service in cork but the hse have contracted them to take some of the a&e pressure off local hospitals.
Pain in the hole for us private insurance payers who want to use it.
I havenāt been to either of them but I did go to VHI in Dundrum when they had one there about 15 years ago. I injured my shoulder playing a hurling match and had my right arm in a sling and my jersey was taken off. I got seen to very efficiently and had an x ray and then the doctor put the x ray on the screen and proceeded to tell me the collarbone was broken. It wasnāt very obvious to me that it was since there wasnāt a clear break anywhere but had to trust his opinion. He then looked at me again and said ā wait now, your right arm is in a sling but this is an x ray of your left '. He checked with the radiographer and she had taken a x ray of the wrong side. She said she saw a mark on my left shoulder so thought that was injured even though the sling was on the other. When she took the x ray again of the correct shoulder the break was obvious so WTF was he looking at the first time.???

The chief executive of University Hospital Limerick, Colette Cowan, has gone on leave with an acting CEO being put in place.
It comes in the same week as overcrowding at the hospital hit a record high.
An email sent to senior staff at the hospital confirms that Sonya Cotter, who has worked in the HSEās Special Delivery Unit, will take up the position of acting CEO from next Wednesday.
The email states that the CEO is on āleave periodā and outlined the arrangements being put in place while she is out. It is understood that the email does not detail the reason why Prof. Cowan is taking leave.
Prof. Cowan, was working in the hospital as recently as this Tuesday.
Overcrowding left 150 patients on trolleys on Wednesday, the highest level since 2006. On Friday, the hospital saw 124 patients on trolleys, up four from Thursday.
Whatās your view on this issue?
You can tell us here
Earlier this week, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said there was āno standing overā the numbers adding that āwe have invested more in University Hospital Limerick, in the time of this Government, than in any other hospitalā.
Asked about issues at the hospital, Mr Donnelly said more than 1,000 additional staff have been put in place since 2020 with an extra 192 beds also being rolled out.
He added: āThe hospital with the second-worst discharge rate in the country is Limerick, so we need to see serious change in Limerick.ā
Referring to Sandra Broderick, who was recently appointed regional executive officer for the Mid-West region, he said: āI know sheās active on the ground driving that change, she needs the entire hospital community stepping up and community healthcare organisations stepping up and helping, to make sure patients are treated ā so they can go up to the wards, and when a patient is clinically ready to be discharged from the ward, they are discharged, be that at 3pm on a Thursday or at 7pm on a Saturday.ā

This is really bad
Itās scandalous but the Irish public just seem to accept it now,
On Simon Harrisās watch. Spectacular failure as a minister for health doesnāt seem to be any hindrance to promotion with these lads.
I know someone who has been around the hospitals and they said Limerick is an absolute basket case compared to the rest. Seems to be well funded but Iād say itās the patients that are last on the list of priorities when it comes to dishing out resources.
I had a vocal discussion recently with a few water charge supporters. I asked them did they like the increase in the cost of electricity. They were actually trying to pin the blame of the money wasted on water meters on Paul Murphy. These people would consider themselves intelligent.
Is Harris going to move into the free rental space your head now after LV has stepped away? Your continued vitriol and fight against FG is admirable.
Heās got a smell of it ā¦ he took down Leo , heāll do Harris in even an faster time .
I think Harris is a cunt but a much lesser form of cunt than the other lad. Leo absolutely despised poor people. I think Simon is only vaguely aware they exist
Thereās probably a lot of lads working in health service who do as little as possible without being fired.
And thereās definitely loads who go way beyond the call and are worked to the bone.
Itās worth pointing out that this is a big contributor to overcrowding. Unreal itās come to this though.
Basic cop on like
As opposed to actually putting these GPās out in the community to address the chronic shortage and stop people going to A&E in the first place?
I think you are trying to deflect the blame away from your blueshirt heroes here, who have been overseeing this shitshow for 15 years. People on trolleys in a&e are not time wasters. They are on a trolley because there is no hospital bed available. Thats a hse and government failure. People showing up to a busy a&e with minor illness or injuries are left waiting on chairs in a waiting room until things quieten down. They are a bit of a nuisance but not a big contributing factor to what is a national disgrace.
