Ireland's health service

I think the article kinda hints he fucked off and left them unsupervised. If he had a valid excuse he wouldnā€™t have been named.

She died and, therefore, canā€™t sue the HSE for medical neligence. If she had survived, and was invalided, she could sue them for millions.

This is her family suing the HSE for ā€œnervous shockā€ due to her wrongful untimely death which, I think, is capped at about 70K per person.

Another record breaking day for Limerick and the killing thing about it is that nothing seems to be being done.
How can FF/FG hold their heads up?
Could SF do any better.
The new wing that went up seems to have had zero impactā€¦

Itā€™s ok management will apologise; whoever replaced Donnelly when he retired from politics as Minister for Health, will tut tut and order a report.

And everyone will stay on trollies.

Healthcare access in Ireland is rationed at the point of entry. Having been in an and e a few times recently my sense is itā€™s got a bit better. There are a lot of addiction/mental health issues which are diverted to an and e as there seems no other means to access help.

Weā€™re at peak respiratory illness season and slip and fall weather which compounds it.

Thatā€™s a big part of it unfortunately.Very awkward conversation needs to had that nobody wants to have , A& E should be triage not a hang out spot for drunks or people with mental health issues because thereā€™s nowhere else to put them .

UHL seems to have some kind of handle on triage at times, and there are walk-in GP practices beside the hospital where people effectively pay for an A&E referral to speed that part up a bit. Beyond triage though the whole thing seems to be completely dysfunctional regardless of what the medical issue is.

Arenā€™t they currently building a 96 bed block over the A&E?

Thereā€™s a building going up near the main road. I donā€™t know what it is for. I hope it might help. My fear is that it will be like the other new block. Big wide corridors with seemingly nothing going on in there. I just hope it does something to keep older folk off trollers.

The centralisation of health services in major hospitals such as UHL since the abolition of the regional health boards has been the major driving force behind overcrowding.

However, hospitals in Dublin, Cork, Galway, etc have had the same applied to them and donā€™t seem to hit the headlines with the same regularity as Limerick.

Could it be that UHL is simply being appallingly managed?

Have been with Irish Life for health cover for years but after a weekend incident and several hours in Crumlin (without ultimately being seen) weā€™re finally getting the finger out and changing to VHI or Laya to avail of the swift care clinics*. The Carrickmines and Cherrywood locations are both fine. Any one of them better than the other?

*Iā€™m aware now we could have just gone to the Laya one this weekend and paid.

Michael Oā€™Leary shouild be running the HSE

Itā€™s a 96 bed extension

Carrickmines is a good job. Have been there with my mother recently for a broken hand and they were really great to her. We were in and out largely on time.

Have been there for various other stitches and bangs and bruises. Can get a bit busy but they will say it and let you know delay. Car parking is limited but shopping Car park is two minutes away and always spaces and thereā€™s a costa and McDonaldā€™s if you need food and caffeine.

If heā€™d only stop feeding his team steroids he could considerably cut down on A&E waiting lists there.

Well letā€™s seeā€¦

Have you tried the Affidea one in Tallaght? I would also recommend Tallaght hospital itself for any kids issues.

Never heard of it.

Weā€™ve been very fortunate so hasnā€™t really been something weā€™ve put a lot of thought into and have always just headed to Crumlin. Need to be ready for the next time.
