And still starts up front for a top half premiership team.

Shane Long has been blackguarded

Absolutely

It feels like the International equivalent of when Stoke started trying to play a bit of football after Tony Pulis departed.

Vital for the one v one situations

Ah come on. Shane Long has been absolutely terrible for Ireland mostly apart from when he’s an impact sub or in a 2 up front

And yet still better that the parade of shite we’ve been put through (possibly Didsy aside) over the last 3 or more years.

He’s really not

Oh yes he is

Would brady be a better left back than Stevens? Stevens use of the ball is terrible.

In the same way that James McCarthy or Harry Arter were going to be a big improvement coming back in. Just the classic player getting better when they don’t play

No.

Brady always gives these great cameo appearances - leads to lots of sound bites about him needing to start the next day - He starts and then has a stinker… rinse, repeat.

Seems amazing Josh Cullen didnt make the squad. A Kenny type player. Be interesting to see will he play for West Ham the weekend.

Looks a mile off full fitness anyway.

Stevens and Doherty both play best as wing backs with a back three. Doherty especially is very effective from that role. I think you’re not gonna get nearly as much out of either man in a back four

Shane doesnt hold it up and bring others into play - he’s a great man to chase a ball down a dead alley or go after a hopeless cause - lots of huff and puff. But that day has passed…
