It is interesting, the GAA club I am involved with in Dublin is in an area where soccer is relatively strong as well and no real bad blood between the local soccer club and the gaa club from what I gather. But at adult level there is zero cross over between lads who play gaa and soccer like you would get down the country. Lads play one or the other, be it senior or junior standard
Is it possible thatās due to time commitments more than anything else? Any lad playing senior in our local Gaa club would be training a few times a week at least already. Hard to take on another sport with that.
Reality is that by the time the kids hit 13/14 thereāll be some lads dropping away anyway and thereāll be 3/4 different sports teams looking for the better players every week.
Iām sure that is a factor alright, teams in less built up areas would be tighter for numbers and would need lads who play both which isnāt the case in Dublin. Just thought it was interesting that there is zero cross over, even outside of the senior club gaa level where the commitment wouldnāt need to be as much
what Iād tend to see is the lads who play GAA at a high level might tog out for the soccer team in the area when the GAA has no need of them to keep the fitness up or whatever. Youād never see it the other way, a lad wouldnāt play GAA to keep the sharpness for soccer. If a lad plays adult level at both the GAA almost always comes first.
In Wexford underage gaa is generally played in the summer, soccer in the winter, so most lads can play both. Works really well. Dublin might be different though? my nephew is with Na Fianna and they seem to be only starting back up, after taking the summer off.
Not sure why this happens. Our lads played na Fianna (who have massive numbers) last week and murdered them. Turns out it was only their lads second ever game. Our lads are playing since last June and have about 7or 8 games under their belts. Made a huge difference.
Yeah that would normally stop for a couple of month in the summer with summer camps taking place. Underage from 13s to minor continues on aside from a break during the junior and leaving cert and typically before Covid the month of August would be free after leagues wrap up and before championship starts
where we are with gah, GoGames run u7 to u11 from april thru to end of october every w/e maybe break august BH or if lashing
alternating hurling and football week on week, the hurling is a complete joke but the football is getting pretty good, amazing to see them come on
so go games on sat at 0930 and we have a training session on thursday at 6 also under lights now, alternate hurling and football pending gogames schedule
soccer then is sunday at 10, tuesday at 6 and match friday at 6

the weather is getting shit now and its not much fun getting the kids cold and potentially MISSING SCHOOL , i dont see the logic of doing a nursery esoecially ( kids u6) during the winter, like ok in october but by november forget it
summer is prime time for kids sport, i cant underdstand why it wouldnt go ahead or be postponed, cul camps and all that dont impact at all
