You made the point that only 3 of the Belgian squad play in the Belgian league. They are a lot better than us so that is to be expected. Heās in the best situation of his career, Iād have no issue with him staying there
He was never getting a regular berth at West Ham as long as Rice was there. He was dead right to move and its done him the world of good. No harm to be away from the likes of West Ham too, vile club.
England are a lot better than us too and all of their squad bar two play in England, so by your own logic their league is far stronger.
In fact 7 of the Belgium national team ply their trade in England, so outside of hipster reasons, heād be much better off playing at a higher level
Iād agree with a lot of that, but now heās established himself away from England, itād be no harm to get out of Belgium to a higher level. Vinny knows this and actively looked to push Lakonga to a higher level.
I think heās a lot better off playing in Belgium than going to a relegation threatened team in England which are the only kind of teams that would be looking at him. Moving to a higher level did wonders for Jeff Hendrick and Robbie Brady of course
are you advocating that lads donāt advance their club careers to play at a level above? Iāve seen some ridiculous arguments on here but this bates them all
What Premier League teams do you think would be interested in Josh Cullen?
I dunno mate, are you saying Anderlecht, mid table in the Belgian league is his level? Hendrick is at Newcastle, he is much better than Hendrick, in my opinion. Heād do a great job for the like of Palace, Wolves etc, not quite top level, not quite ateing fear of relegation
Hendrick doesnāt get a game at Newcastle. I disagree that Cullen is that much better than Hendrick either. Cullen wouldnāt get in a Wolves or Palace team
I think you place too much emphasis on the EPL, outside the top 6 the sides are poor in Europe generally.
Iām not placing any emphasis on the EPL, Iām saying itās a higher standard than Belgium, whichever team you play with.
Same as going to the Bundesliga would be moving up a level. Or Seria A, or Ligue 1. I think Cullen is a better player than the Belgian top division
So you think Belgium is his level?
Why would you think that not being sure of getting a place playing 110mph football in England is better than getting regular football where he is as far as international football goes?
Iāve never seen him play for Anderlecht so impossible to say.
Why do you think he wouldnāt be sure of getting his place?
Surely itās better than playing in a mickey mouse league, the more competitive the better surely for the player
I disagree, I think heāll become a better midfielder in Belgium than he would in England where they opt for sprinters.
Our best player in the international break plays in league 1. Our best player over the last few months hasnāt scored at club level in the championship in months. Weāve seen throughout the years that the level Irish players play at for their clubs means very little
Going to Belgium and getting exposed to a different style of football has been good for Cullen. I like him, heās intelligent and has the requisite amount of dirt about him too. A spell on the continent would be a good move for the likes of Jason Knight and Omabamidele also.
Tielemens and Lakonga are missing a trickā¦ they should demand a move back to the Belgian league post hasteā¦
Heād earn bigger money in a more competitive league, but sure the hipsters want him to stay in Belgium for no tangible reason
Playing games is better than moving and sitting on the bench. Iād struggle to think of a player that has improved for limited/intermittent EPL exposure.
Without knowing too much about the Belgian league Iād say they place a higher value on keeping possession than English teams, which is something we lack at international level. Thatās not saying heās not good enough, but he shouldnāt move unless he knows what heās getting.
