Privately run clubs can’t really be expected to devote meaningful resources to underage teams. The senior teams are competing for meagre prize money as it is.
What level are players going across to England going to now? How many are going to the top 5,6 clubs at underage level ?
Being 4th seeds and getting to a playoff in a WC campaign isnt bad. MON will be raging over the individual mistakes for the goals…the team arent as bad as tonight looked and it could have genuinely been different had Slab or McLean’s chances went in after Duffys early goal.
We made Denmark look like world beaters which they’re not. Erikson is a lovely player but the room he got, made it easy for him.
Why can’t the FAI copy iceland or whoever and build the bubbles, hire the coaches and commit to developing technically proficiencient players. There seems to be an acceptance that ireland will never produce them and hoofing it and pudnem unda presha will do. 2012 should have been the wake up call, such was the gulf in the class, but The Best Fans In The World are culpable to an extent. Perfectly happy to beat Germany or the Italy B team with mindless hoofing, instead of recognizing the folly and demanding their association develop proper players. As if aping England is the only way to go.
O’Neill has done a decent job but its a bit overrated based on the fact that it is much easier to qualify for the Euros now than it was before he arrived and we have got several slices of luck in his tenure also
Lookit, Stick a knife in every rugby ball, soccer ball, o Neil’s football, basketball and cricket ball and just concentrate on the hurling going forward
They are now making their decisions on who can make it at 13-14.
Its all done for another 20 years till they realise the mistake they made and other similar sized countries show how its done. Sone already are. Iceland for 1.
Sweden are taking a massively differebt approach. And although not related to success now they had loads of home based players involved yesterday
