Was reading recently (and of course took it with a pinch of salt even though it seemed credible) that the Reals in Cork operated independently of the North, which controlled everywhere outside of Cork. Mad stuff. I can’t find the article right now, but if I remember right they were insinuating that the O Driscoll murder was the North cleaning house after the Ryans got done, as opposed to the initial theory that the criminals being extorted got brave once Vinnie and Alan were taken out.
Ryan and O Driscoll seemed to have great intentions leaving Portlaoise, but extorting dealers as opposed to clearing the neighborhoods of them was probably what led to their downfall.

I knew him as a quiet individual who did as he was told,
Went to portlaoise and became a monster
360 degree change
He used a nail gun in Limerick ( stuck a pikey dealer to the ground)to extort money in the name of republicans,
That plus the fact he was pushing his weight about and threatening active Republicans in Cork made him get the OBE
He was a real ordinary fella until he got ranked up in portlaoise prison
And became O/C in Dublin
He turned to gangsterism
Amazing what a bit of power can do to a person’s persona

Bananas. Yeah, I believe himself and Alan were in Portlaoise at the same time and came out guns blazing. I remember that incident in Limerick. It’s like they were trying to manufacture a reputation that they weren’t to be fucked with.
Yes, a lot of idealists ended up getting sidetracked by power, money, prestige etc

When we see the HSE copying and pasting content from the NHS on their website, would we have been better off all of us staying in the UK in some Scotland type scenario.
Half of Ireland follows an English football team and we have done fuck all to promote our language.

Matey, nearly all our civil service legislation guidelines and everything is copied and pasted and lifted from the UK civil service manuals, so there’s nothing to see there, mate. That’s old news.
