His campaign for the FOBTS was ill-fated but it was a business decision to try and make a business of his survive in an already saturated market. Maybe that’s over the head of someone working in the public service who seems to spend most of their time trawling GAA sites and reading ESRI reports.

Religion has nothing to do with it - I was pointing it out as Pikeman tried to bring it into the debate. I couldn’t give a fuck what religion he is. I don’t know what the rugby jibe is about but I presume that was just your fingers exploding on the keyboard.

Anyone outside of Enniscorthy probably won’t understand but when Yates was in Government as minister he managed to do more for both Enniscorthy and Wexford than anyone else ever had. The rest of our TD’s are a joke in comparison. He got the Urban renewal scheme underway in Enniscorthy which transformed the town from having a huge amount of derelict wasteland and being almost as much of a kip as New Ross to have some proper public services and amenities.

He’s never forgot where he came from. Celtic Bookmakers head office is located in Enniscorthy and employs about 40 or 50 people in decent to high skilled jobs that no other business in the town can offer. He’s worked closely with other high profile business people from the town to try and attract more business to it. When Paul Kehoe was running for the Dail and Fine Gael tried to get Avril Doyle back from Europe, Yates went out on the campaign trail with Kehoe to ensure Enniscorthy was properly represented in the Dail. It was egg on Fine Gaels face but it was their own fault.

Abuse me all you want but I respect the man for what he has done, from both a business perspective and in politics. As I said, he can be an obnoxious cunt but then again that shouldn’t tarnish your opinion of someone.

I presume I’ll get a reply from you asking for bullet points or telling me how rattled or seething I am or some smiley face but I suppose that’s no different to anyone else who tries to have a reasonable debate with you about anything.

his campaign for FOBTS shows the morality of the man & shows he has no concern for the Irish people. yet he was still a politican. this suggests that he was a career politican & not in it for the good of the people. to be honest i dont give a fuck about anecdotial evidence about what happened in enniscorthy but its telling that local gombeenism still rules the roost in the town of scalders.
