The Dutch were the best team at the tournament but, typically, messed up in a knockout game

these were phenomenal times- this defined Irish popular culture back then still does with many people, wow
the culmination was keane in saipan then

Went to a few of the 86 games. Being destroyed by Denmark is 1 but in hindsight they were a great team

That was a real chance . The failure to beat Poland undid us badly .

that 3-3 in october 1991
i was in 6th class - but jesus id remember the whole lot - a wednesday october evening 5pm KO maybe in Poznan.?

Yeah. They always played in Poznan in those days. Were we ahead in that game?

Iirc we lead 3 - 1 . I think Bonner was losing confidence and Brady dropped him around that time .

That was the first international game I ever went to but I was too young to remember any of it.

The Scotland home game for Euro 88 I was sitting in the classroom (2nd class I think) and there was a knock at the door. My Dad standing there asking to take me out of class so I could go and watch us at Lansdowne.

Home game v Spain in 89 was my first international. I found a 5 pound note on the way to the train station with my old fella… what a day.

Ireland lost to Denmark 1-4 after going one up. RTÉ showed Northern Ireland v England live that evening and not the Eire game

Is that Limerick for robbed?

I have two memories of the England v NI game :

Jennings has a blinder

Kerry Dixon had a mare

Gary Mackay had a pub near Tynecastle

0-0 wasn’t it? Jennings was 39/40 by then.
